Expensive, but pretty well worth it
-05.25.12
The texture of this balm is great - not thin and greasy, not thick and sticky. I didn't notice that it deposited any color on my lips, which was fine with me, and the matte finish is great. After reading the other reviews I was a little worried about the smell, but I was happy to find that it's not really that bad; I would equate it to a very mild orange creamcicle aroma - not my favorite (actually I hate creamcicles), but it's not strong enough to be a turn-off and make me send back the product. I'll keep it, and definitely consider splurging on another tube in the future.

Quick Take: moisturizing
It's pretty moisturizing, but has a stickiness to your lips. I also don't really like the smell. For an expensive lip balm, it wasn't really worth it.

Wine???
-12.21.11
Come on...only the French would put wine in a lipbalm!!!Perhaps this review is a bit biased...I worked at the Guerlain counter at Chicago's old State St. Marshall Field's years ago. Would that I had that discount today, I would never have stopped using this line. Alas, this product is about all I can afford. I always loved that wine was an ingredient; I always loved the matte nature of the product (great under lipstick); I never minded the fragrance.

I COULDN'T GET PAST THE SMELL...
-09.14.11
I was given a new unused Divinora LipBalm in a makeup trade. I can see why the person traded it away. I figured since it was Guerlain it would be pretty good, since I usually like Guerlain products a lot. Not so in this case. This lip balm had a weird smell which immediately put me off. If the description is correct, this formula was created in 1828, almost two hundred years ago, at a time when bathing and cleanliness was somewhat of a luxury. I think this lip balm could do with some modernization. The smell was so strange, that I couldn't even get myself to try it.

Absolutely Amazing
-09.13.11
Quick Take: hydrating, exfoliating, stays put
This balm smoothes dry lips and make them look plump. It also actually stays on your lips. It has a nice matte finish and the smell is pleasant. A few people complained about the smell and that almost kept me from purchasing it. I'm a lip balm junkie and by far this is the best. I also reccomend Bliss new lip set as well it's also fantastic .

It's just ok
-01.21.11
Quick Take: very matte
I am addicated to chapstick and lip treatments and I have tried every lip product I can get my hands on. I was excited to try this one after reading the reviews. Yes, it did have a smell to it but i didn't mind it. Yes, it is very matte and is more of a treatment then a lip gloss. Yes, it goes on very peachy and at first you think the color is just awful, but it does blend in and looks natural on your lips. No, this isn't the most amazing lip procuct out there. I don't hate it but I don't love it. It's just ok. It made my lips soft for the first hour I was wearing it but then it fades away and you have to reapply. I tried using it a lip treament at night but when I woke up in the morning I really didn't notice a difference. If this product was $10 I would say give it a try. But at this price, there are much better lip products out there for sure.

Classic Balm
-10.19.10
Quick Take: hydrating, luxurious
As a lip balm addict, I have used this product for years. It provides ultimate hydration. I like the "earthy" scent, it sets it apart from most other minty type balms. The balm is peachy/orange in tube, but leaves a matte natural finish on lips. The last tube I bought is different from the product picture. It's long and slim. I have noticed the balm tends to seperate. A problem I NEVER had with all other tubes purchased. I wonder if the problem is due to the new packaging. It's still a great product, well worth purchasing!!!!

BEST OF THE BEST!!
-09.07.10
Quick Take: hydrating
Try to not be swayed by the negative reviews on here, because other than the smell that could be bothersome for some people, there is nothing bad to say about this product! A few years ago, a saleswoman at the local Neiman Marcus had been trying to pressure me into buying a tube of this. I seldom buy high-end beauty products on a whim, but a couple of other sales girls had walked by and were plucking boxes of this stuff from drawers for their "clients" saying that some people buy a few tubes at a time keeping one in their coat pockets, one in their car, etc. and that there is usually a wait list for this stuff. ARE YOU KIDDING? I am in no position to be buying three of any beauty product at a time, so that was not going to convince me. Well, I justified the purchase being that it was not over $25.00 and took a tube home. Let me just tell you: I have never been more impressed by a single product in A LONG TIME. This stuff is thick and creamy in texture and has a very faint rosy, wine-like smell. Color is like a dark peach (very close to natural lip color I would imagine), but does not look strange on lips. It is matte in appearance and not at all greasy, but extremely comforting on the lips. I usually put it on at night as it is a treatment and I kid you not, by the morning I have the most moist, plump lips imaginable. You need a small amount to do the trick. I would say about the size of 1/2 a pea. One tube with regular use will last around 4-5 months, maybe longer depending how often you apply lip balms. I will never not use this product and have been faithfully using it for about 4 years now! I hope it stays in production forever because I don't know if I am wiling to try another product. Treat yourself to some luxurious French lip balm today ;)

Expected more...
-04.23.10
Quick Take: hydrating
I tried this lip balm from a friend and fell in love with it. It coated my lips in a nice moisturizing layer, and the smell didn't bother me too much. I bought my own and after a week of using it, it seemed like the balm cream was separating. When I squeeze the tube, a liquid (alcohol? water?) would come out first and then the creamy balm. I tried shaking it and mixing it by pressing on the tube, but it didn't fix the problem. Hopefully I just have a lemon. I'm going to try and exchange it...

Great
-03.04.10
Quick Take: hydrating
I have to agree with the previous male reviewer. I am always applying lip balm and when I first tried this years ago I was in love. I love the way this works and I even like the scent. I agree it is a bit pricey but it is high end and worth the money.

This is the best lip balm ever!
-01.12.10
Quick Take: hydrating
I've read the other reviews, so I cannot comment on how this stuff works with lipstick. As a male, I have found this to be the absolute best lip balm, ever! Within 24 hours of applying this to chapped lips, my chapped lips were "healed." No more chapped lips. Yes, it has a different smell to it, not like "cherry flavored chap stick." And yes, it can be a bit "sticky," But the key is it WORKS. It is awesome. Please don't stop making this product.

Very Pricey ~ even for Guerlain...
-11.11.09
I'm probably obsessed with healthy lips. Guerlain is one of the most elegant in Cosmetics. Just not that great with this lip balm. To me it's kinda run-of-the-mill stuff. It has an odd scent. Jack Black is still my favorite after the bevy of balms I've tried. I believe this Lip Balm needs a quality upgrade- At any price it's sold...

ICKY STUFF!
-07.22.09
Quick Take: pricey, thick
I recently purchased this product because I needed a new lip balm. I thought "Hey, why not try something new? " (even if it's a bit pricey...) Unfortunatly, this stuff turned out to be a real let down; It smells like dirt, and is much to thick. If you have severely chapped lips this might be good for you, but don't buy it as a chapstick to put under your lipstick.

Thick and smelly
-05.15.09
Quick Take: very thick and smelly
I expected more from pricey Guerlain but did not get it. This goes on wicked thick and smells uneartlhy. Perhaps the 1828 formula ought to be updated to include a pleasant fragrance and SPF.

Not worth the price...
-03.05.09
Guerlain's lip balm is definitely not worth the price. As a matter of fact it's not worth any price at all to me. I thought it had a very strange smell and made my lips feel sticky, not hydrated. It didn't work well with lipstick either overtop or underneath it. I just didn't like this product at all.

Great stuff except scent
-11.07.08
Quick Take: hydrating
I purchased it recently with the last resort. The package apparently renewed looks slimmer than the product photo and its shelf life is 12 months. As another reviewers mentioned, there is a bit strong unpleasant herb-like smell in it. I expected somewhat Guerlain's signature violet scent. Good news is that the smell could prevents me from licking the lips really well. The lip balm is a little pricy but my serious lip dryness healed in 10 minutes, absolutely the best stuff I've ever tried. It'd be worth considering for the one who is suffering from lip dryness.

The smell was weird, and so was the texture. It left a weird colored film on my lips that was uncomfortable. It did hydrate, however.

Rich not greasy
-10.13.08
Quick Take: hydrating
This is a very rich cream but I live in Canada and in the winter my lips need something this tough to get them through. It isn't greasy at all considering how rich it is. I'd recommend it to anyone but it's definetly for serious moisturizing.
