Quick Take: soft, goes on quickly, leaves skin clean and soft, rinses cleanly, not greasy
I have tried a lot of makeup removers and been very disappointed in all of them. Clinique has found the answer! At first I thought it would be greasy but not a bit! It rinses off so easily and takes the makeup with it! Even your eye makeup. You can even open your eyes after applying. Try this!! You'll love it!

Quick Take: smooth
this does a great job taking off make-up but leaves a "coating" on your skin and lashes. I wash my face afterwards to get more of a clean feeling. If I don't get it washed off my lashes I feel like it gets in my eyes - doesn't sting but makes my vision blurry. I like the smooth creamy texture but just wish it rinsed off better. A little goes a long way.

Quick Take: creamy and then melts to an oily feel
I love this product! I have been using the rinse off foaming cleanser from Clinique but needed something that would better remove my 9 year old daughters performance dance makeup without a lot of rubbing. This did it! It removes eye makeup completely so no need for that extra product to haul around.

Quick Take: milky
I love this product. I've tried many of the oil-based cleansers, and this is the best one (Take the Day Off Milk, Boscia Makeup Break Up, Nude Cleansing Oil). This one has enough slip that it glides onto skin without feeling like you're pulling at it to remove your makeup. Washes away nicely, and I always follow it up with a regular cleanser.

Finally!! This remover does exactly what it is supposed to do: It removes ALL my make-up with no residue and no irritation to my eyes, even when I accidentally got some product in one of them. The price makes it seem expensive, but a small amount will remove all make-up, and you can always swipe a little more out of the jar if needed.
It felt a little "slick" on my fingers, but it rinses off easily(no residue at all) and my acne prone skin has not had any breakouts since using this. This is the best remover I have ever used and I will buy it again.

I wear waterproof mascara and this removes it with a little extra effort and a washcloth. It does sting if it gets in your eyes and may cause the vision to be slightly blurry but does a great job at removing my makeup

This balm is amazing! Lasts forever, and leaves your face baby soft after being rinsed off. Never burned my eyes, has a clean scent. Totally worth what I spent. Will be buying more!

Finally found a something that I will use every night. It actually removes all of my mascara, and while I'm at it, why not take off the rest of my make up too? I use it all over my face and neck and remove with a warm wash rag. I love it! It seems greasy, but I have not had any break outs since using it and it wipes off easily.

Quick Take: oily (in a good way)
LOVE is not strong enough of a word when it comes to this product! You would think i'd hate it since I have oily skin, but its the best! it gets EVERYTHING off! Before this, I used to use Purity to get my eye makeup off, and i still needed to go in with a Q-tip to get my eye liner out.
With this, once I rinse it off and wipe my face with a towel, all my makeup is GONE! Most people with dry skin can just use this as their night routine, but since I have oily, acne prone skin, I use this to take off my makeup, THEN wash my face with a cleanser (with my clarisonic)
Even with my clarisonic, hardly any makeup is on the brush, which goes to show this balm does the trick!
It doesn't break me out and doesnt leave me oily - there is absolutely no alternative to this product so i pray they never get rid of it!

I absolutely love this make up remover. I mix it with a little bit of warm water, massage it all over my face with my fingers, and wipe it off with a damp face towel. It leaves my face clean, fresh and so so soft.
I used to use a lot of those oil/water makeup removers on a cotton ball, but they either left my skin feeling oily or super dried out. Clinique's cleansing balm is the best of both worlds. It definitely does it's job and takes off my makeup from foundations, to waterproof mascaras; and leaves my skin feeling fresh and smooth after.

I've used this product for years. It removes every last stitch of every type of makeup and has never failed me in any way. (You can tell this review is going to be objective because that's not overselling it.) I use a lot of waterproof "24/7" makeup, all designed to stay put throughout my days filled with eye rubs, tissue pats, hard laughs, allergens, emotional outbursts, emotional inbursts, and various other forms of contact or wear--rendering most of makeups semi-permanent. Especially the eye stuff. Glitter liner, liquid liner, waterproof mascara, and so on. Just a few swipes with this stuff and it's like it never happened! It feels oily and gross when rubbing it onto my face, which produces plenty of its own oils, and it took a while to get used to that. But it rinses away clean, NO residue. (Although I do use a soap afterwards for good housekeeping.) It lasts a good long time, too. If you bought this only for eye makeup, it would last you a ridiculously long time. (I use it for face and eyes and it lasts about 4 months.) I rub it all over my eye; the lid, the brow bone, underneath, and I gently rub it along the bottom lash line. It gets in my eye every time and makes my vision a little blurry until I rinse. NO stinging at all. (I have very sensitive eyes.) I've recommended this to everyone who complains about stubborn makeup and it's a staple for me.

Quick Take: cleansing, silky, rinses clean, effective
I am quite amazed by this product. It looks like vaseline in the jar and the first time I used it (more than 5 years ago, now) I was expecting a greasy, disgusting mess. I was wrong though and Take the Day Off balm has become a mainstay in my regimen if I am wearing a full face of makeup. This balm liquifies as soon as you start to work it into your skin. What is really amazing is how completely is rinses away, taking a full face of makeup with it, leaving your skin feeling soft, cleansed and moist but not greasy (at least, this has been my experience). I will often use a face cloth dampened with warm water to make sure I get every last trace off. And while it's been more than 30 years since I've used Clinque's "3-step program", there are times when I don't bother following this balm with a separate cleanser (it all depends on my mood or how tired I am) without any negative effects at all. There are now a lot of oil cleansers on the market but this balm is still one of the best and it's far more portable than a liquid oil if you travel. First rate product.

I found that it make my face feel oily and did not remove all of the makeup. My face felt sticky and did not feel clean after use. I returned it. If you are looking for a good eye makeup remover, save your money.

Removing Makeup versus washing your face

For oily skin people you can't find many products that only remove makeup so that you can use your acne wash, and acne wash doesn't remove makeup. This is the perfect makeup remover, NOT CLEANSER, for oily skin. I emulsify in my hand and work into the skin well and then rinse. Then I use a REALLY HOT rag, so hot it is hard to hold, to get the pores open. After this my face is clean and free of makeup and ready for acne wash. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is because it is easy to use too much product thereby costing yourself more money.

I wanted a makeup remover to use for taking off my eye makeup at night and have tried SO many products before finding this one! I have sensitive eyes and most products, even made for sensitive eyes still irritate my eyes. This does the trick and completely takes off every bit of my eye makeup in less than a minute! It doesn't feel super oily and doesn't hurt my eyes at all! It only takes a tiny bit as well, I am so glad that I got this!

I bought this make-up remover based on the reviews and am very disappointed. This product is like a very thick wax that in my experience, does not turn into any type of silky oil. It does remove my make-up, but it also leaves a horrible film that often gets into my eyes and leaves them blurry. I would not re-purchase this item or recommend.
