A great sheer lipstick
-05.15.12
Quick Take: long wearing, moisturizing, sheer and bright
I bought this lipstick in the Scoop color, a very pretty coral color which suits my olive complexion. It was longer lasting than the more expensive lipsticks I have and I'm thrilled about the eco-friendly cardboard lipstick container!

Sounded good....
-12.03.11
I found that this product wore off very quickly and was not all that hydrating. This color was barely visible against my fair skin. Srictly so-so, and at a pretty high price.

I got to test this stuff out in the Balmbini pallete. Fell in love! Almost a cross between lipstick and lipgloss. Doesn't dry out my lips like lipstick, but not obnoxiously sticky like gloss. Just ordered Classified and Scoop. Can't wait to get them in the mail! On a side note...really bummed all of my local Sephoras no longer carry The Balm brand.

Very hydrating...
-09.25.11
Quick Take: creamy, moisturizing, sheer
I purchased this listick in letter to the editor. This color is VERY sheer, but provides superior hydration.
The smell is very slight and smells faintly like vanilla. This instantly hydrates my lips, but with my natural complexion it just provides a sheer shine.
This particular color is very shimmery so is nice when outside.

A Good Everyday Lipstick
-08.19.11
Quick Take: moisturizing, long wearing, creamy, cute packaging
I purchased this lipstick in the color 'Scoop', and I really like the petal pink wash of color that it gives my lips. It's not highly pigmented, but the color is buildable, and the lipstick feels amazing on my lips. It's creamy and wears for hours. The packaging is really cute, as well. This is definitely a good everyday lipstick, and a nice conversation piece to have in your beauty bag. I'm considering buying more colors, because it's a great fuss-free lipstick.

Quick Take: moisturizing, long wearing, lightweight, nonsticky, nonwaxy
I have this in Wanted. It came in my TheBalm Balmbini Palette. I have never worn red lipstick and this is actually the first I've tried. It looks like a true red in the package but its actually a very bright cherry red. Its very pigmented, looks like a stain but feels like a balm. I dont like this color on me and I cant pull it off for everyday wear. I tried applying with a lip brush and I tried dabbing it on with my fingers and blending it in and both times the color is too bright of a red for me. However I LOVE the formula, its lightweight, its moisturizing and it has great color payoff so I will absolutely get this lipstick in another color ( probably Gossip or Classified). Great lipstick!

Classified - A Great Nude
-07.06.11
Quick Take: creamy, moisturizing, conditioning
I'll be honest, I was first attracted to this lipstick because of the packaging. I mean isn't it so incredibly unique? As soon as I saw it I knew I'd need to try this lipstick.
But, I was pleasantly surprised with the color and the formula! I purchased Classified on my ongoing hunt for the perfect nude for my somewhat pigmented lips, and was quite pleased. I have to apply at least 2 layers, but I'm rewarded with a fairly opaque nude, that lets my natural color come through just enough (i.e. very little).
The lipstick goes on nicely but can be very very soft, far softer than many of my lipsticks from other brands. However, it stays for a good amount of time, especially since it doesn't claim to be a "long-wearing" lipstick and doesn't dry out lips. Use a gentle hand and a few layers, and I think you'll like what you see :-).

Scoop, sheer and pretty color, a little drying
-06.27.11
Once again, TheBalm captured me by the packaging of their products. I love the look of the lipstick case and how fun and vintage it is. I bought this in the color Scoop, sort of a hot pink. Its a beautiful color and sheer but I found it to be a little too much of what I call "barbie pink" if I put on two coats. With one coat, it did not seem to show up that much or have much contrast from my own lip color. That's why I tried two coats, only to get another result I didn't care for. When I work with the color, it does give a nice pretty natural pink to my lips. However, the lipstick was a tad drying and did not go on that smoothly. I found it helpful to apply a little lip balm before putting on the lipstick. The lipstick has a cooling action that I felt on my lips as well; and the color itself (of what I could notice) did not last that long.
Overall, pretty and sheer and a great color, but I had to work with it. Also, the smell is a strong vanilla scent which is okay at first but I do not like it after a while. So if don't like vanilla scented things, this may not be a choice for you.

So pretty and flattering
-06.24.11
Quick Take: long wearing, flattering, shiny and sheer
This is my first TheBalm lipstick. I got it in pan form in TheBalmbini palette and if it weren't so darned pricey in Canada, I'd gut the tube as I prefer a tube to a pan. But what a beautiful bright cherry red shade of lipstick. There is something about the formulation that makes it very wearable even though it is a bright colour - it's almost like there is a sheerness to it, but it's not sheer. I find it to be reasonably long-wearing and also non-drying and even though I am older and quite pale, it is not overpowering. As coral and peach aren't great shades on me, this has become my spring/summer lip colour.

I got CLASSIFIED and it's super chic. It's subtle yet sexy. It's also hydrating. I found that it goes well with dark eye makeup at night. Five Stars!

Wonderful sheer colour
-05.05.11
Quick Take: creamy, moisturizing, great sheer colour
More like a highly pigmented balm than a lipstick, lasts decently but is definitely not long wear. Smut is the exact colour I've been trying to find again for 2 years....love it!

smut...
-04.12.11
love the packaging, love the color. just a hint of plum, a nice cross between a lip stick and a lip gloss.
what i didnt like...small flecks of iridescent glitter, rather than shimmer, that i was not expecting and i feel it leaves my lips dry and needs to be reapplied quite often.

This lipstick is great!! It smells great, sweet like vanilla. And I got the "classified" color, the perfect nude for me. Love this, hope they never get rid of it. Plus it's one of the least expensive lipsticks!!! yay :)

Lucky find
-03.22.11
Quick Take: moisturizing
I was shopping for a red lipstick to wear at my wedding reception. I tried this product after having put on a red lip stain and the colors together were fabulous. Alone, this beautiful red balm becomes more of a bright pink but using it over a lip stain is just perfect. Love the retro packaging!

Lipstick conversion is now complete!
-03.09.11
Quick Take: creamy, moisturizing, long wearing, complements medium to dark african american skin
I've been trying to get into switching from lipgloss to lipstick. I've been doing a lot of research on Sephora's site, but was unable to tell what color would go with my complexion based on reviews. Instead, I just went by the Sephora store and an associate was extremely helpful with this endeavor. She, like me, is obsessed with lipgloss, but doesn't like the look or feel of lipstick. So, she suggested that I try this brand in Smut, topped off with My Passion Fruit lipgloss to give it a glossy sheen. So far, I love it! I only regret that I didn't make this decision earlier in the day so that I could wear it a bit longer! It has a great, moisturizing feel to it, shimmer & shine. And, it looks as good on outside of the store as you did while shopping in the store. To me, that's very important. I hate trying colors on in the store only to step away from the fluorescent lights and realize that you look like a clown in natural lighting. I'm a believer!

my new favorite brand!
-03.07.11
not only does the balm live up to its name, these lipsticks smell amazing and don't have a nasty flavor. i loved a laura mercier shade that i couldn't stand the smell or taste of, bronzed berry, and have a sephora lipstick in a nice purplish taupe that smells tolerably grape-y but not amazing.
i applied a lip spongeful of smut. it took a lot less than most brands--a lot of the time i have to apply an insane amount to the disposable sponge to get ANY color onto my lips--lasted for hours, is a gorgeous shade and smells great! minty!
this is moisturizing. i believe, and not the kind that leaves your lips dry and flaky afterward, begging: "put more on or i'll look like the death valley!"
the balm does everything, even pricing, perfectly.

Gossip
-03.06.11
Quick Take: creamy, long wearing
Bought this lipstick in Gossip on a whim a while ago and didn't really use it but then more recently came back to it and finally realized that it's a great pink. I would normally stay towards more neutral, brownish or goldish pinks. But I am now captivated with this vibrant, girly, flirty pink. One of my favorite lipstick colors. Plus feels good on.

Scoop
-03.03.11
Quick Take: creamy, long wearing
So it's creamy when I apply it, but it seems to dry out my lips. I love the color, I thought it would be more sheer because of the description, but it wasn't and at the same time it's not over powering. I have two other TheBalm lipsticks and they don't dry my lips out, so maybe I just got a bad one, but it's fine if I apply a balm every so often.
I recommend it to anyone that want a pinky red shade that isn't over powering.
