I love this! - 03.09.10
Quick Take: evens out skintone, lightweight, fast-absorbing

I bought this primer to go along with the Diorskin Nude Natural Glow Hydrating Makeup that I use. I love the brush attachment and how easy it is to apply this product. I makes my foundaton apper smoother and last longer on my skin. It really does minimize the look of pores, and for me, helps minimize redness that I am prone to on my cheeks and nose.

This is a good product but is over priced at $40. It helps to even out my skin tone but doesn't provide very much of a "glow." It also made my skin feel oily even though it's suppose to be oil free.

Unfortunately I returned the product. I found the brush applicator too cumbersome and feel there are better products out there that are easier to apply. I gave it 3 stars because Dior has outstanding products, but this one just didn't work for me.

I love this primer. It is has a nice sheen to it. The color is light, perfect for my fair skin. If you have darker skin it may not work for you.

brightening, smells lovely - 02.20.10
Quick Take: lightweight

I don't use this as a primer but more of a late day pick me up on my cheekbones, nose and forehead to brighten up my tired skin. I think the effects would be lost under make-up, so it's best applied over as a brightening highlighter without to much shimmer. Has a wonderful frangance and I like the brush applicator though you still need to blend with fingertips.

Primer - 02.18.10
Quick Take: evens out skintone, lightweight, radiant and fresh looking

It's a good product but not great! The convenience of having a primer with a brush attached for the ease of use is a sensible idea but does not work too well. The primer comes out too much or too little when you try to use it and one has no idea how much has been used and how much left. The saving grace is that it does give a fresher radiant look after use.

i was excited about buying this product but it failed to meet my expectations. on it's first usage i thought it was broken because it took a long time to come out. i couldn't really see a difference in appearance. i did like the fact that it was lightweight, non-greasy, and dried fast. i will continue my search for a better primer...unfortunately.

MIXED PRIMERS - THE LOOK IS SPECTACULAR - 02.07.10
Quick Take: evens out skintone, lightweight, fast-absorbing, awesome look, created a beautiful look, great for all skin tones

I don't usually review more than one product at a time unless it's a collection or some sort of palette. However, in a professional make up session by a professional make up artist, three different primers were used in conjunction with each other, all for the very same purpose. The results were really spectacular when combined. In this review, I've tried to explain the benefits of each separate product as explained to me by the make up artist, and the benefits of each separate product from my perspective. I'm going to share my perspective of all three at each of the products sites, since none of the three primers are from the same cosmetic line.

I took a lot of notes, because as the session progressed, it was pretty clear to me that something really special was happening. A lot of different products were being used on me and I wanted to be able to remember how to recreate the same thing at home. (I've had a few too many awesome make overs at Sephora where I've left with the most wonderful new looks, only to get home and not be able to remember exactly how to recreate it, or which colors from the new palettes I was supposed to use on what part of my eyes... This time I wrote it all down, and even diagrammed it).

Here's my experience:

I was lucky to take part in the most beautiful wedding... However, it took six attempts with various make up artists until everyone was totally satisfied with how the wedding party was going to look. I was happy the first time around, but apparently it wasn't quite what the bride-to-be wanted. It was quite a treat to learn how to do six totally different looks, from six totally different perspectives.. I was introduced to a whole slew of products I would never have tried. More importantly, I learned a whole lot of new techniques from different (professional) make up artists. Some techniques were great, others were so-so... The wedding colors were peach and salmon, and so were the dresses, which also meant I had to use makeup colors I normally wouldn't have picked. For a make up junkie like me, who generally prefers shades in the pink family (with the exception of NARS Orgasm), this was a huge change. So I learned a lot more than I would have, otherwise, because each of the six practice sessions all centered on colors in the peach family.

The sixth attempt was the charm, right from the facials all the way to the end result. I felt like a princess out of a fairy tale. (My husband was the handsome prince... Well, maybe I better revise that to the Queen of It All because if I was the princess it might be a little difficult to explain our teenage children). Seriously, though, we were pampered with so many wonderful products and given an amazing gift basket of wonderful products from the bride.

I took a lot of notes, so I'm going to try and share my newfound knowledge with you. Some of it might be really beneficial to everyone.

I learned the most during the primer application. The make up artist used three different primers together. I've mixed two different products a couple of times on my own - for example, a illuminating primer with a tinted moisturizer - but not used three specific products that technically do the same thing. The make-up artist mixed up Fresh Twilight Freshface Glow and Guerlain L'or Radiance Concentrate With Pure Gold Make-up Base and then used Radiance Boosting Makeup Dior Skinflash Primer.

There was a specific reason for the three products. The makeup artist told me that Guerlain's L'or Radiance Concentrate With Pure Gold Make-up Base is one of the best primers available, but at $70 for a small container, it's extremely expensive. He said he tells his clients to alternate using it either for special occasions, or every other day, or he mixes it up with other products so that it will last longer. This product hydrates skin, so that fine lines seem to disappear. Because it hydrates the skin, makeup goes on smoothly. There are gold specks in this, but I didn't see them on my face. By mixing it with the other Fresh product, I got the benefit of using a very expensive product, along with the benefit of excellent hydrating and smoothness. He only used a tiny bit, and also pointed out that if this product were used solely on it's own, I should only use a very small amount. A little goes a very long way so technically it should last for months.

The make up artist explained that Fresh's Twilight Freshface Glow is great for hydrating and for reducing pores. I have a few slightly enlarged pores that bother me, but apparently nobody else notices (funny how we notice our own faults nobody else sees or cares about) and he used this. By the time he was finished, I couldn't see them. Out of the three products, I think this one smelled the best. It smelled like oranges and lemons, sort of citrusy and yummy. Once again, he only added a little bit. He pointed out that only a little bit of any primer should ever be used. He also said that too much of anything, no matter how good it is, will only serve to clog pores.

I'd say that the two products mixed together was probably slightly over pea- sized, only flatter than a pea. They looked a little bit strange mixed together, but it worked really well. Before the makeup artist even got to the third primer, I could see a difference. Seeing the prices might make one think twice, but when I think about the teeny tiny amount that was used, it's obvious to me that both products would last a very long time.

He then applied Dior's Radiance Boosting Makeup Dior Skinflash Primer. He said this was to add a little bit of pinky peach color to my face. He concurred that he also felt I was more of a pink toned person than peach, which is why he chose this product, because he said it balances out both. From my perspective, this gave me a sort of luminous youthful glow and maybe through some sort of optical illusion, or maybe through something else. my skin did seem to look almost like teenage skin. He said that he uses this product frequently for people over 30 who are going to be photographed because there are light reflecting properties in this that seem to give skin a dewy fresh look, worthy of "a magazine cover." Now, I wouldn't go as far as to say the end results were worthy of a magazine cover, but I will say that by the time he was finished, I barely recognized myself (although that included eyes, lips, etc).

I like the effect that this Dior Primer gave me (and I got to keep it). I may give it away because I already have a tinted brightening primer, Benefit's That Gal, which I love, which is strictly a natural pink. That Gal also keeps my skin well hydrated. (That Gal was previously reviewed on December 17, 2009). I also think the brush on this Dior primer might create a slight excess waste of product because there is a long way to go from the container to the end of the brush. With That Gal, only what comes out of the container is used with absolutely no waste of product. However, I've had my picture taken by my sons using That Gal and also with this Dior primer on, and I have to say that there is a difference, just as the make up artist said, with the Dior primer. The effect is clearly better with the Dior primer so obviously, if I was having my picture taken, I'd be a fool not to choose the Dior.

Another good thing about the Dior primer is that the color - a peachy pink or pinky peach - is perfect for more skin tones than the Benefit one is. Also, there's a really great benefit to the Dior primer in that I noticed it seems to somehow pick up the tones of the colors around it - for example, when I stood near a peach comforter, it seemed to pick up the peach, and when I was near pink, it seemed more pink. Optically, it seems to be able to blend in or complement the color family that's near it. This means that if you're wearing clothing in the peach, copper, tangerine (hot summer color) shades, this primer has the capability of looking more peach than pink, and complementing your outfit, rather than clashing with it. On the other hand, when I got dressed and put on a navy and pink printed shirt, it picked up the pink tones in the primer. So that makes the Dior primer very versatile on it's own. And without a doubt, it did a great job.

Will I buy the ones I wasn't given as gifts? Not sure, because they are expensive, and more than I normally would spend, especially putting the three of these together. Although each of them is more money than other similar products, and quite a bit more than what I was using, the make up artist was clearly able to demonstrate to my satisfaction the benefits of each of the products he chose for me. Mixing a more expensive product with something more affordable, also brings the cost down. I highly recommend all three products, either used together, or on their own, based on the merits of the products.

I've tried a few primers with "shine", and they can overpower you. This one is a low shimmer so you do get a glow but not TA-DA overpowering gleam, not masky either. With a dust of neutral powder you can really get a flawless looking face and a gee you look young and refreshed glow. good under eyes too.The brush applicator is attached, works OK.

This is one of the nicest primers that I have ever used! First, I loved the scent and texture of this product. It smells delicious and goes on SUPER smoothly. Although I didn't find that it made my foundation last all day, it did smooth out my skin and help with the application of my foundation.
