Takes a lot of time but fun to make
-10.26.12
This is a neat idea!!! 8 of your favorite lipsticks or tinted lip balms in a mirrored palette the size of a business card!!! (2 x 3.5, and less than 0.5 in thick). I'd say it's a nice quality palette and brush, with a good-sized mirror. I like that I pick my own colors, and can re-do it when they run out or when I feel like it.
It takes a lot of time, patience, practice and lots of paper towel to get it done. Takes at least 80 seconds to melt each one, I guess depending on the brand and quality. I used different kinds (Urban Decay, Clinique, Revlon, Rimmel) and each one takes at least 80 seconds to melt completely, need to add another 20-30 seconds for some. I did not attempt to mix colors together though. The silicone bowl gets hot, so be cautious. I also had to improvise on a tool to scrape and flatten the top when I overfill it. It was frustrating at first, but I was pleased in the end! This is one of my favorites in my little touch-up bag that I have with me everyday.

So much fun!

Quick Take: well made
I love this little kit. It's really fun to use, though a bit messy if you aren’t patient. But, I found some tricks that will make it easier to work with.
First of all, the palette itself is well constructed. The plastic isn't flimsy and the hinge is tight. The little lip brush is just fine for applying the lipstick. The silicone bowl is really useful as it doesn't burn your hands when you handle it, plus you can squeeze it to make a little spout and direct the lipstick into the pans. The tiny spatula is fine for scooping lipstick out of old palettes that you want to melt into your new one, and for cleaning the bowl between uses, but that's about all you can use it for. Sephora would do good to add a longer pointed tool similar to a cuticle pusher to get into lipstick tubes.
The pans in the palette are small, but that just allows you to add more colors. Don't try to melt a whole tube of lipstick and fill just one well. Each well will hold about 1 inch of lipstick. You can certainly refill them at any time if you run out.
I purchased mine before they went on sale. Now that they're on sale, I'm going to keep checking back to see if they ever come back in stock!
Most of the lipsticks took about a minute to melt, with some of the long-wearing ones taking a couple minutes and the creamy lipsticks taking around 40 seconds.

Awesome beauty tool

Quick Take: practical
As soon as I saw Sephora's Refillable Lipstick Palette, I had to purchase it. It is just one of Sephora's best ideas. The silicone cup is just perfect for melting lipstick with just about 20 seconds in the microwave. I can customize shades by blending different colors. I can also make them more moisturizing and sheer by adding just a bit of lip balm to the mix. The bowl is very easy to clean as long as I do not let anything harden in it. Now, instead of digging into my lipstick tubes, I just melt the lipstick to fill my pretty palette. Then, when I travel, I can have 8 different shades in one slim compact instead of carrying a bunch of lipsticks. I absolutely love it!

This was fun!

Couldn't believe how much fun I had creating my own color palette with 8 of my favorite lipstick colors. It was very easy to do but be warned - if you melt too much lipstick to go in the palette it can get messy. But I got the hang of it pretty quickly and it was fine. And what a steal at $5!

Awesome Tool
-11.17.11
This is a great kit! I have many a lipstick that is just not right - there are many that look too orange on me - I use this to mix them with a purple lipstick and end up with much more flattering shades. It is also great for making use of the end of a tube of your favorite color as well as saving space in your cosmetic bag - there are spaces for 8 different colors - and it takes up a lot less room than 8 tubes of lipstick. And the price is great.
I would only warn that some lipsticks take longer in the microwave then the package says and that little bowl gets hot so protect your fingertips.

Quick Take: innovative, perfect for travel, fun!!!
I just got this palette today! It looks a lot bigger online than in person. This palette fits into the palm of your hand, but it holds a lot of product. It's really fun to make your own lip products too! For $5, this is a steal! I highly recommend this product!

This is a great concept. Fun thing to do with all your "leftovers". Can even mix them for different colors-lighter or darker.
Only thing is: it can be messy until you get the hang of it :)

Great idea but horrible execution. Made a huge mess and once done it split and hardened against the mirror not in the try I threw it in the trash - waste of money

I have been wanting something that would help me use up that lipstick that you just can't seem to get out at the bottom of the tube, this is it!

Quick Take: a great way to get creative with lipstick!
Love it! I have several lipsticks that I never wear because they are too light or too dark for me so I mix them in the bowl and form a new color. So cool!

I saw a lipstick palette in a magazine and thought - what a great idea! I searched the internet to find one I could purchase (live) and Sephora's product popped up. I'm glad it did b/c I love it! I don't like carrying multiple tubes of lipstick in my purse and this allows me to have them all at once! I love it so much I bought one for my mom for Christmas~

A place for those almost empty tubes of lipstick!
-12.16.10
Quick Take: awesome!
When I saw this, I was like, OMG! Finally something I could really use! The instructions are easy to understand and it's such a wonderful product. It really helps to have a handy palette to add your lip color to. It allows us to throw away our tubes of lipstick that don't have enough to really keep but that we just can't justify throwing away because they still has some lipstick in them.

Just a correction to my review.....
-12.14.10
I meant to say that it takes longer than 60 seconds, not 30 seconds, to heat your product to a pourable consistency. My review was published before I caught the error, and doesn't look like editing is an option once it publishes.

Useful tool in my beauty arsenal. I love it!
-12.14.10
Quick Take: worth having and cost effective.
This is identical to the Japonesque kit, but less expensive. I've used it to create tinted lip balms, customize colors, make glosses out of shades that were otherwise too deep or matte for my tastes, as well as salvage what was left of my favorite discontinued shades. Easy to use and clean, but like other reviewers mentioned, it takes more than 30 seconds to get your product to pouring consistency, and the silicone does get hot. All minor issues for me. The empty palette is well made, and the perfect size for carrying in my purse. I don't have to worry about it coming open and making a big mess. It's a great tool, and I've recommended it to all of my friends.

I just love this!! It's a bit more time consuming than I was expecting and it does get a little messy, but I love being able to create my own palette with colors I already love! It makes carrying them around so much easier. I would recommend 90 seconds in the microwave, rather than 60, though.

Love this tool, I had a munch of lipsticks I could use using only a lip brush, I melted them and poured them in the pallet, you can also mix a create new colors. just 30 second in the microwave and ready to pour.

-11.10.10
every makeup book i've read has said these things are supposed to be easy to find. but after looking at three different makeup shops, two craft stores, and every other retailer i could think of to try, it was fantastic to find this. the cup makes it really easy to make the palette look nice and keep it clean while pouring in lipstick, the spatula is great for scooping all the bits out of the tube, and the palette comes with a brush and a mirror. it's pretty much like the best thing ever. the only thing i don't like is that the cup gets really hot in the microwave & is kind of hard to hold on to. and like just about every other reviewer here, i would love so much if they made a larger one!

My only complaint is when i microwave the bowl like 60 seconds, it gets really hot and its hard for me to hold and pour it in the palette. If i microwave it less than 60 seconds, it doesnt really soften up the lipstick. So...otherwise, good invention!
