Silk'n Silk'n SensEpil™ + Bonus Cartridge

What it is:An at-home device that offers the results of in-office laser hair removal. What it does:This over-the-counter hair removal system delivers the clinically proven effectiveness of the well-established, market-leading Silk'n(TM) device sold by physicians. A breakthrough product, it harnesses the power of proprietary Home Pulsed Light(TM) technology to create a cutting-edge, safe, and user-friendly hair-eliminating solution. This set contains: - Silk'n SensEpil device- Instructional DVD- Quick start guide and user's manual- 2 x Lamp Cartridges - Power cord What else you need to know:The Silk'n SensEpil device features state-of-the-art, skin-sensing technology that dramatically increases the safety of the already safe and reliable Silk'n brand. SensEpil's built-in skin sensor will only activate a pulse of light energy onto appropriate skin types, ensuring maximal safety. Each lamp cartridge can deliver 750 light pulses that typically cover a single complete treatment, including two legs, arms, under arms, and bikini line. A bargain compared to in-office hair removal, there is no decrease of energy during the usable lifetime of the cartridge. When a disposable lamp cartridge has reached 90 percent of its possible lifetime, the replace cartridge indicator light on the control panel will start blinking, indicating that it should soon be replaced. This cartridge-based system provides a lifetime of personal treatments at a fraction of the cost of physician office visits.Research results:With just two to four self-treatment sessions, most users experience visually diminished hair that is comparable to results produced by professionally administered laser procedures. User satisfaction and clinical results speak for themselves:- 80% of users experienced a noticeable reduction in hair after 3 months.- 90% preferred using Silk'n to visiting a spa or salon.- 90% said they would recommend Silk'n to a friend.- 90% described Silk'n as convenient, easy, useful, and innovative. Safety Information: It is designed for use on legs, arms, underarms, bikini lines, and other areas of the body where hair removal is desired; it is not recommended for use on the face. This tool is ideal for use with lighter skin tones (I - IV on the Fitzpatrick Skin Tone Classification Scale) and brown-to-black hair. See the chart

Great so far!
-04.01.12
Quick Take: convenient, easy to use, high quality
I am really impressed with this product so far. I have had it for 3 weeks and have done 2 treatments. They recommend waiting 2 weeks between treatment. I have only used it on level 1 and 2 so far and I am already noticing changes. The first thing they tell you to expect is for hair to actually grow faster (that is the hair pushing it's way out of the follicle). Where I have done treatment, the hair is growing more rapidly and is slower to grow back in. The use of the laser itself is not painful. You feel a slight twinge but not of pain. I will try to remember to post another review a couple of months down the road. My hope is that the hair growth will be fairly slowed down by the summer.

Bio: I have very light skin and very dark hair
Duration: used on and off for about 9 mos. Used 1x - 2x a week Jan-March & may. sporadically June - Sept
Experience: after I stopped using it in march, only about 10% of the hair remained. Around late April (stopped using it completely through April), that increased to a 40% grow back rate. I was disappointed, but used it about 1x /week through the month of may. I have used it very little since the end of may (maybe 2x the WHOLE summer) and I am pleased to say that only about 20% of the hair continues to grow!
Maintenance: I am on my 3rd cartridge. Altogether, I have spent over $500 on the system (bought the original item with a holiday coupon).
Bottom line: Be persistent. It beats electrolysis, and no razor bumps like shaving/waxing [!!!]. For me, that is totally worth it!

Love this product!
-09.11.11
Quick Take: good value, works
I bought this laser in Nov 10. I did a lot of research and was very skeptical but compared to the laser at spas the price was unbeatable.
I am fair skinned (not pale) and have fine black hair. I have used the laser about 7 times and have changed the cartridge once.
I didn't use it during the summer because I was traveling and my skin was tanned. I'm sure it'll work faster for people who are able to use it every 3 weeks as recommended.
I started at level 5 (the highest level) and feel that more than 50% hair is gone and even the hair that's growing is much slower and finer. I will continue to use it and hopefully kiss all my unwanted hair goodbye!!

Quick Take: fda-approved
Please add Silk'n Pro to your product line-up! While the SensEpil is FDA-approved for almost the entire body, it can't be used on the face. The Pro is FDA-approved for use on the face below your cheeks and is gender-neutral, as well, so you'll be expanding your customer base to men. I love Sephora, but I'm disappointed you don't carry this product.

Beware
-08.18.11
Quick Take: not permanant
I thought this really was working as I faithfully did the treatments on schedule for 6 months. I stopped after that so I could start tanning this summer and within 6 weeks my hair was growing back as fast and coarse as it was before I started the treatments. Also...after some investigating, I found this is not a "laser" treatment as the description mislead me to believe. I also spent money on expensive cartridge refills and now I can't return because past 90 days.

I have been using this on my lower legs and underarms. (My upper legs are too blonde.) I have had good luck with my lower legs. I have used two lamps so far and I would say I probably have about 75% less hair on my legs. I have not had such good luck with my underarms, but I will keep trying. It does not hurt unless you do it over a mole or miss a spot shaving. Then, it burns a little, but not too bad. I would recommend this to anyone who is considering paying more for laser hair removal.

This machine does what it's supposed to and the pain at the highest level is about as bad as snapping a rubber band on your skin. The only downside is that welts appear on more sensitive areas but the usually disappear in a day or two.

Very good results but, patience is required
-08.10.11
Quick Take: good value
The most fantastic part of this product is that you can do it completely at your convenience, in the privacy of your own home.
I have had the Silk'n since last Fall and have treated my lower legs 3 - 4 times, bikini line about 10 times and under arms about 7 times. The treatments are time consuming but, definitely worth the time and effort. The hair on my lower legs grows so slowly and is so pale, sparse and fine that I only know it is there b/c I can feel it. My bikini line required more treatments but is now mostly hair free. I do get the odd hair now and then but, just zap it and it is gone. I am not sure that it has worked as well on my underarms. My husband says the hair is lighter and finer but I am not to the point where I feel comfortable not shaving.
The machine has a fan that runs the entIre time it is being used so it is not practical to watch tv or listen to music during the treatments.
The treatments were more painful in the beginning but have become more comfortable as the treated areas have thinned out. They were never painful enough to stop the treatments.

Quick Take: good value, @ home laser hair removal, amazing invention
I use this every 2 weeks. I do apply a creme called no scream creme first. You can pick it up for 20 bucks and it makes the experience much better. I wont lie it stings the same as at a dermatologists visit does. At those visits they had the machine set to a level 14. This machine only goes up to a level 5 which its a much more comfortable setting, especially when using w/the creme. I spent at least $1,000 at the dermatologist for the same results. I turned the machine up to level 5 from jump street. I've never had squares left on my skin as mentions in a previous review. I have black hair and milk white skin. This machine has great safety features the laser will not flash if the skin is to dark. Not for those who tan. TIP if it doesn't work on an area because the safety setting alerts over an area being too dark...Try wiping off the surface of the bulb & try it again once or twice. Its sometimes just a dirty bulb. You need to shave the area to be treated too other wise it will alert the safety that the area is too dark to treat. Also I blow on the bulb to cool it down between each flash. It just makes it more comfortable. Always close your eyes when pushing the button because the flash is stupid bright. The hair that grows back is very slow to grow back and much more sparse. I can go 2 weeks w/o a bikini shave. No bumps either which is a huge plus! The hair is finer so it really reduces razor burn & in growns/bumps.The bulbs last a very long time. The area I treat I can treat 3-4 times before needing to replace the $50 bulb. Which I feel is a heck of a deal. I highly recommend this product.Yes its expensive but its worth the 500 bucks. Get the kit that gives you an extra bulb. Its the best deal. I also ordered a cpl extra bulbs to have on hand. That way I don't get half way through a treatment and I am left SOL because I'm outta bulbs. I've been using this since December 2010. I can tell for sure the longer I use it the more permanent the results will be. Hope this review was help full.

Love it!
-05.26.11
Quick Take: good value, easy to use
First off, this doesn't take away the hair entirely, at least it doesn't for me. However that's fine because I didn't expect it to.
I definitely cheat when I start using it again (I've had this since it came out), you do not need to wait 2 weeks at all! I'll do 2-3 sessions in a week to get my hair where I want it. Where I want it is I can do 3 days without a shave and it looks like it used to at the end of ONE day (it retards the hair growth, over half won't even grow back over a week period...longest I can be lazy to see).
Even when I stop using it during the winter my hair has yet to grow as quickly as it used to and it's much sparser.
WARNING: Do NOT bump your settings up too fast. If it hurts more than slightly while you're doing it, you will have rectangular marks on your body for some time. Be patient!

I was thinking about getting this for a long time, and after reading reviews and what not I decided to give it a try.
I read the booklet that it comes with and it states it takes about 6 applications to get good results (about 3 months, since applications should be once every two weeks). My first time I did the first setting on my under arms and bikini line and didnt see a change. Which was expected. The second time I bumped up the power to 2 on the same areas. I now see a noticable difference in the slowing of growth on the under arms, but no difference on the bikini line.
I'll probably go to setting 3 next time, and then make my way up to 5 since I think my skin is pale enough for the light not to burn it.
All in all, I have seen a little difference but like I said it takes about 3 months to do what it is supposed to so maybe I'll check back in and let you know what is the end result.

It works!
-04.18.11
Quick Take: good value
I've had laser hair removal in the past, maybe 3 years ago and realized I needed a touch up. Instead of going through the expense of a full course of treatments I decided to invest in the Silk'n. I'm happy I did. It takes work, and you need to follow the directions to a t, but you will see results. I did my underarms, which were never treated before and I've had 90% reduction in growth in 4 months of treatments. In my legs I've experienced about 75%. My arms about 90% as well. My bikini area is 90-95 % clear.Regrowth if any is finer, thinner and hardly noticeable.
Beware! Level 5 is very, very strong. It burned me in some areas. I suggest if you get to level 5 do one area and let it cool off significantly. If you feel any pain, or stinging stop immediately. Use plenty of Sunblock on the areas treated. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!

@ Good so far (the reviewer below)
-04.14.11
Quick Take: effective but takes time, best for those with dark hair thats not too coarse
You're right-- in my experience, I haven't seen the hairs totally disappear, but the reduction has made a HUGE difference in my ingrown hair problem since I began using it in December.
Sink'n considers me an "ideal candidate" because I have extremely fair skin with dark hair; however, my hair is very thick and grows quickly both on my head and all over my body. I'm using the SensEpil on my underarms, bikini line, and a few rogue hairs.
History:
I began using the SensEpil the first week of January 2011 and have been using it exactly as directed every 2 weeks.
Results:
Slight reduction in number of hairs and significant slowing of hair growth.
Reduction in # of hairs-
I'd estimate that I've had about a 10-20% reduction in the number of hairs growing at a given time; however, aesthetically there isn't much of a difference because only the finest hairs have stopped growing. In my experience, these tend to be the ones that curl up under my skin and cause ingrowns (because they aren't tough enough to break through the skin). So, yes, I'm still hoping for more reduction, but I'm very happy to have fewer ingrown hairs.
Slowing of growth-
I used to literally have a 5 o'clock shadow under my arms and on my bikini line. Now the growth isn't noticeable until the next morning, although the I still wouldn't skip a day shaving if I were going to wear a bathing suit.
Bottom line:
If you've read to this point, you're probably the kind of person who understands that this system takes time and that everyone who uses it will experience varying degrees of success. If you want the hair g-o-n-e, you'd probably have more assurance of success with a dermatologist and clinical laser hair removal. If, like me, you're cost-conscious, want the privacy, and can deal with the fact that- depending on your hair situation- you may not see dramatic results, this is for you. That said, if your hair isn't super thick and coarse, you might get those dramatic results.
Oh--- and you've always got Sephora's amazing return policy to fall back on. Though it was only slight, I did notice that the growth was a tiny bit slower within the 60-day window to return it for a full refund.

Sephora asked me to review and it's been one month. I've used the Silk'n twice the most recent being last night. So far I can't see much hair reduction my my skin does seem smoother in the bikini area....I suffer from course hair which caused ingrown hairs every often. I can already tell this will help. Will try to review again in a few months.

GREAT VALUE
-12.20.10
i read a lot of reviews on this before i finally made the purchase because it certainly wasnt cheap and i wasnt sure if it would work because i saw a lot of mix reviews but 1 month and 3 treatments later im a believer.
Results: i treated one of my legs and did a side-by side comparison, there is clear results in decreasing hair growth.
Time: the hardest part was having the patience to move through the whole leg pulse by pulse. it takes half an hr to do one leg.
"Permanent": i read reviews about how follow up treatments are still required in the long run because its not "permanent" enough. But i really hate bumpy bikini line so I am willing to do touch up sessions. And even those profession lasers require follow up so I am ok with that.
"Cartridge burn out": one of the biggest complaints I read about the product was that the cartridge burns out quickly and its $50 each. I have treated my legs, underarm, bikini, upper lip for about 3 treatments each area. Maybe because I am kind of small but I am still on my first cartridge.
Overall, this bonus package is a GREAT value, I checked a lot of online website and still ended up buying this one. plucking and waxing is very taxing on your skin and pores so laser is great.

Best. Thing. EVER.
-11.14.10
Quick Take: good value
So I know I sound like I've been paid to say this, but I haven't! I used to HATE shaving and was really insecure (especially down there) because I tried everything & still got terrible ingrown hairs. My hair was perpetually stubbly and it was terrible because shaving while still just stubbly gave me cuts and didn't shave properly, but waiting would make the hair super obvious... Anyway long story short my hair was a nightmare. I also had a little hair on my tummy, which I was insecure about too. I do have the perfect condition for the silk'n -- light skin with dark hair (for the hair I used it on). The silk'n is a godsend. I use it on maximum every week or so, and it hurts a little bit, but I can't describe the difference in hair! It's not all gone, but only a little bit grows (usually in patches for some reason) but it's fine because the hair grows back really light and it's super easy to shave. I seriously used to have to shave every day, and it was still stubbly. Now I shave every 3 days or so, and it's not even noticeable! Granted, it did take a couple months to have the full effect, but it's the best $500 I ever spent! My one complaint is that the hair grows back really quickly after I stop using it (after a couple weeks), but one complaint that I've heard is that the cartridges run out quickly, which hasn't been a problem for me at all. I only use the silk'n on my armpits, "hair down there", and a bit on my stomach, but I'm on cartridge 2, and it's been what, a year that I've had it? More? Anyway, it's amazing. Most hair I use it for is dark and coarse, but on my tummy it's light and medium brown, and it worked for that hair as well. Long story short, this will save your life. Don't get it for big areas though. I tried using it on my legs once and I got bored 6 inches up my leg.

Wow - this really works !

Quick Take: good value
I have coarse dark hair and after one use (setting set at level 3) have already noticed a difference. At times I experienced a slight tickle, but otherwise it was pretty much painless and took the same amount of time it does to wax, although I did not experience any of the irritation usually experienced after waxing. As a test, I only used it on one leg and when it was time for the next session (2 weeks later) there was noticeably way less hair on the leg I had used it on. This was also true for other areas - underarms, bikini, upper lip. The users manual was correct in the amount of area you can usually cover with one lamp cartridge (750 pulses). After 2 sessions, my experience is that this product does in fact live up to it's claims (at least for my skin & hair type).
