Great healthy sunscreen
-05.19.13
Quick Take: natural
I purchased this for a vacation and after researching healthier sunscreen options. I purchased this and one cheaper option to try, and this one was substantially better than the cheaper one. These types of sunscreen are typically very thick and difficult to rub on (and don't rub in well), but this is by far the best I've tried! (My boyfriend even found it tolerable and he refused to use the cheaper one that he likened to peanut butter.) I have pale, sensitive skin, and this kept me protected and didn't cause any irritation. This is definitely not intended to be a moisturizer; just a great healthy sunscreen!

Yuck! This is so sticky and pasty. I immediatelly wiped it off and threw it away.

Don't bother wasting your money
-04.05.13
Not worth the price. Not only was this sunscreen whitening (when it claims to be the opposite). but it was not very moisturizing and does not have a great scent. Not what I expected from Lavanilla, an otherwise good brand.
Check out Kiss My Face's Oat Protein sunscreen instead. It's a fraction of the price and is a much better product.

Love this sunscreen! Non greasy, absorbs well, and better for your skin than other sunscreens.

Wanted to love but...
-01.19.13
Quick Take: drying
I wanted to love this sun screen and my skin is very dry on my neck and I thought since this is a body cream it would act as good moisturizer too. But, that is sadly not the case and it ended up drying my skin out even more. So, if you are looking for good moisturizer in a sun screen you might want to keep looking. The price is kinda of high for what you get too. On the lighter side I do love their perfume. :)

Great Protection
-10.04.12
Quick Take: non-greasy, natural
I picked this sunscreen for a trip because I prefer mineral sunscreens over chemicals ones. Another reason why I picked this is because of the ingredients and because it has a really good rating in the EWG skin database. I like that its a thicker cream, but it took a really long time to rub it in and rather than the usual white tint that most mineral sunscreens leave behind it left a purple tint to my skin. I don't really mind much since I hardly am out in the sun to begin with and since I was only using it while on vacation. Overall I would recommend this sunscreen for the staying power and the protection.

Good Purchase
-08.06.12
I decided to try this based on it's rating ( a number 1) in the EWG's 2012 Skin Deep report. So far it's really worked well for me. It does go on a bit thick so I try to work in a little at a time and it really helps if your skin is just a tad moist. I also ordered the SPF 40 face cream which I also like. I will be purchasing them both again.

Smells good
-07.16.12
A little thick but doable, smells great and not greasy. The thickness helped in not having to reapply so often.

Too Thick
-07.13.12
I have used other LaVanila products and really liked them. I wanted to like this, but I bought it for a vacation and was so disappointed. It was so thick and heavy that it was almost impossible to rub into your skin. My husband refused to wear it and we had to make a trip the drug store for another type of sunscreen. Huge waste of money.

Works like a charm!
-07.12.12
I bought this for our Daughter who has had an allergic rash from most all sunscreens. I have tried other natural sunscreens but have found she will still tan/burn though them and they don't seem that effective. This works great! It does leave a little white color behind, but no sun gets through and she has not had any reactions. I am using this now on all our kids as I like the idea of natural. It stays on even in the water and is hard to get off at night with soap, so this stuff really works! Expensive, but I will buy each year.

Quick Take: non-greasy
tried this sun screen for the first time the other day for 5+ hours in the sun, and it did wonders. i usually tan after being in the sun for more than 20 minutes, but this cream was very protective of my skin, and did not feel very greasy when applied. I did have to rub it in a lot for the white color to fade into my skin.

I wish
-06.30.12
I really wanted to love this product because I love other products of LaVanila and wanted something natural. Unfortunately it just didn't do it for me. It was soo hard to rub in and the thick white texture made my fair skin purple. It just wasn't for me. I returned it.

Natural!
-06.23.12
Quick Take: non-greasy, blends in easily, natural
I purchased this sun screen as a daily body protectant after doing some research. Most of the drugstore options that are easily found are loaded with preservatives and chemicals. My skin is very sensitive and wanted something that wouldn't make my skin worse. This is perfect. It really has no scent at all, and although it went on thick like a typical high SPF, it didn't leave me feeling greasy and sticky. I'm excited I found this. I think the face version will be my next purchase.

Healthy Sun Protection!
-06.14.12
Quick Take: health conscious sun protection
This is a great product for those who want excellent sun protection without the harsh chemicals (especially those who are expecting). It is thick and requires extra rubbing to get it on clear, so plan a few extra minutes for application before hitting the beach. I tested this out in Hawaii - it works like a charm!

Healthy sunscreen
-05.03.12
Quick Take: natural
I particularly like the fact that this sunscreen is rated very favorably by the Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. I will continue to use it because of the fact that it doesn't contain any toxins or harmful chemicals, as those things are very important to me.

Can't wait to try
-04.07.12
Quick Take: dreamy
I am looking for a great smelling, natural sunscreen and this seems to fit the bill. I have tried LaVanilla perfume in rollerball form and love it. I love that it is organic too. But I had a suggestion for some of the reviewers that stated it made their skin lighter or white.
1. Take some foundation and squeeze it into your hand with the sunscreen (more sunscreen than foundation). See if that helps to blend the suncreen more easily to match your natural skin color without giving you the white out look.
2. If that doesn't work try using a foundation shade thats a shade or 2 darker than you normally purchase.. and follow step 1 again. This helps to compensate for the whiteness by adding in more dark color.
3. It would be really really awesome if LaVanilla would come out with a BB cream. That way you wouldn't have to create the concoction mentioned above and would get the best of both worlds (sun protection without white out).

Non-irritating bliss
-10.02.11
Quick Take: natural
Some people are allergic to the usual chemical sunscreens, e.g., avobenzene, octisalate, octocrylene, etc. After a long search for a non-irritating, natural-based sunscreen I can finally say, 'Eureka!' This product will stick to you even after an hour-long run. In fact, I use a body scrub before I shower in order to completely remove the product from my arms and legs. As others have noted, it also leaves one's skin moist, albeit it a little pale. This is a small price to pay for effective, natural sunscreen protection. I buff a loose mineral sunscreen over my "pale arms and hands" to offset the whitening effect. This also gives me additional protection and sets the product. As sensitive as my skin is, I no longer experience the little red bumps on my arms or legs that I did using chemical sunscreens, nor have I experienced any acne-type upset. I very happy with this product. Finally, thank you to the Sephora associate who patiently demonstrated several different products before I made my decision to try Lavanila.

Holy grail of sunscreen!
-08.11.11
Quick Take: natural, non-greasy, blends in easily
I LOVE this sunscreen! So glad that Sephora finally caries a high zinc content sunscreen! I use this on my face everyday and have had no problems whatsoever. I wear sunscreen 365 days/year and have tried so many different kinds of mineral sunscreens. If you are seeing whitening, you are probably using too much. Leaves a dewy (not matte, but not super shiny) finish and wears well under my primer and makeup. I like to alternate between this block and the ones by Josie Maran given how my skin is feeling that day. Some may be able to skip the moisturizer w/ this one. Expect a high price as most natural sunscreens are more expensive than the chemical ones.

great stuff but pricey
-08.08.11
Quick Take: non-greasy
I do love this, but it is very expensive and so I only use it on my chest, neck, face and shoulders. Great for sensitive skin, non-irritating and long lasting. 4 stars because of the price. Someone mentioned it is hard to rub in, but sunscreen disappears when you "push/pat" it in after the initial application instead of rubbing - especially this one.
