Origins Modern Friction™ Nature's Gentle Dermabrasion

What it is:An age-smoothing exfoliation product for perfectly polished, smooth, and luminous skin. What it is formulated to do:Are you sand-blasting skin with coarse chemical crystals? How painfully passe. Here's age-smoothing exfoliation without irritation. Skin-refining rice starch, cushioned in cream, shows a real affinity for rapidly removing sluggish cells, uneven patches, and signs of skin damage and discoloration. The before-and-afters are amazing. Fine lines and size of pores appear to shrink in size. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Fragrances- Synthetic Dyes- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- GMOs- Triclosan What else you need to know:Lemon oil kick starts the process of illumination, all while aloe keeps skin calm and comfy. There's no ouch, extra steps, or other complications. No redness or flaking follows. And the perk-me-up aromas of bergamot and peppermint help you look on the bright side. Best for all skin types. Research results:Origins tested Modern Friction on a panel of 54 women. After just one try, of those who had undergone clinical micro-dermabrasion, 94-percent said they would now consider using Modern Friction instead.

Not my favorite

Reasons why I don't love this product: the smell, the goopiness, the difficulty I have using it and removing it from my skin, it burns my eyes when I'm removing it, AND the way it makes my skin feel afterwards, itchy and tight.
It smells like potatoes. It feels very tacky between the fingers. You're supposed to use this on dry skin but I find it hard to move around. When I add water I don't find the exfoliation to my liking (it becomes slippery and ineffective). It takes me forever to wash off all the little rice particles which feel like you have sand bits stuck in your eyebrows and hair line. I would NEVER use this at the sink because it would take me forever to wash it all off.
For me this product is a hassle and a bother. I find Fresh's Sugar Face Polish to be a far more pleasant exfoliating experience. It is a natural product and it is also formulated without Parabens. It is pricier but it should last awhile and it is far less frustrating/easier to use. It does come in a jar which might be a negative for some but a plus for others.

Gentle yet effective.
-05.16.13
Quick Take: gentle, softening, exfoliating, natural
This is a great exfoliating product. I have very dry skin so I don't like to use anything too harsh and I found that this was perfect. It doesn't feel like it is doing much because it is so gentle but the results are amazing! My skin is left super smooth and soft, not dry or tight at all. Putting on makeup the next day is lovely. My only warning would be to make sure that you towel it off because it will sting if it gets in your eyes!

This stuff works! I bought it on the recommendation of the store clerk, who said it would make any other product work better. I don't know about that, but I know on the days that I use it (about twice a week) people comment on how smooth my skin looks, like I've just had a facial.
As far as those users who say they can't use it properly in the shower: just scrub it on your dry skin before you step into the shower, then work into a lather and rinse once you're in. The only drawback is that it will sting your eyes that way, but I think it rinses cleaner using that method as well...

It's okay

I bought this hoping it would be an exfoliator to replace my caudalie exfoliator but when I got this home I found it didn't work for me because to get a good exfoliation you have to use it on dry skin. When you use this in the shower it doesn't work that great.
Overall I think it's inconvienent that you have to use this dry for a good result.

Excellent
-04.28.13
Quick Take: exfoliating
The product is amazing: it is strong enough to exfoliate but gentle enough not to peel off your skin. The instructions on the back of the product say that it should be scrubbed on dry skin. I add a little bit of water otherwise it is a real exercise for my fingers.
SInce the product offers both chemical and physical exfoliations, it seems really dumb that some of the reviewers decided to use it in the shower since the product can easily can get into the eyes and mouth.
There is a tingling sensation after each use which lasts a couple of minutes, other than that it is a great product that I will gladly re-purchase.

Love this
-04.23.13
Quick Take: gentle, exfoliator, good for more sensitive skin
I have been buying this product for years. It is a great for exfoliating and is not irritating at all, even for my sensitive skin. I have not witnessed removal of dark patches as the description suggests but the other benefits make this a must have.

A bit abrasive but still love it....
-04.21.13
I have extremely sensitive skin and this is a bit rough and leaves my skin a tad red, but it does an amazing job on smoothing the skin. It is recommended to use 1-2 days a week and I really want to use it every night. Since my skin is sensitive, I use it at night every 3 days or so. Now I caution you, if you get it near your eyes it will burn (peppermint and citrus). For those with sensitive skin, definitely put this on damp skin, not dry skin. Took off one start just for the sensitivity and eyes burning. Very happy Laura C. at Sephora Christina recommended this.

Not For Me
-04.13.13
Quick Take: harsh
To be fair, this was the first exfoliator that I have sought out to try but it wasn't any good for me. Left my face feeling way too tight and felt like a sunburn for a few days. Returned it to my local Sephora and unfortunately wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

So Far So Good
-04.10.13
I have only used this a half dozen times.
I have used it both with dry skin and moist. It is very gentle.
It may be too soon to say, but I think my pores along side my nose are looking clear/smaller already. (Stay tuned on that issue after a month or so of use.)
So far I would definitely recommend this product.
Love that it is a natural/free of paraben product.

perfect for everyday use
-04.09.13
Quick Take: gentle & effective
I love to exfoliate my skin, like everyday. This cleanser is great because it is not too abrasive but it still does a good job of removing dead skin to reveal a brighter and softer face. Smells super refreshing too, I think this is a good deal for the price.

Wow
-04.08.13
I use this product every other morning and my skin looks and feels amazing! I don't have to use much and I follow the instructions starting on dry skin. I set my hands and slowly work into a lather. It tingles as I rinse and my skin feels like new. I haven't had any irritation and my husbands keeps mentioning how great I look.

-04.05.13
Quick Take: gentle
My skin is super sensitive so I tend not to use any dermabrasion products. This one is has a great consistency and leaves my skin feeling very soft. No breakouts or anything to report! WIll definitely purchase again.

Soft Scrub
-04.04.13
Quick Take: painless, penetrating
Most scrubs that I use I find to be too harsh and painful but this one is quite unique. The product is very thick and has tiny beads that gently dissolve away into your skin. Rub gently and apply with some water. Let it stay for a little bit and then rinse for a super deep clean feeling with the pain!

I have sensitive, redness prone skin, and a fragrance allergy and this stuff is awesome. Not harsh or irritating, I can use it and it doesn't cause an instant red reaction in my skin. I'm loving it so far. I use 2-3 times a week and I can tell my skin has improved. I add a little water since my skin is sensitive and it works great.

Did I get the same product as everyone else?
-03.25.13
Seriously, did I? Some of the reviews I read said that the peppermint was too strong and advised against using it in the shower because it will kill your eyes if it even washes over them as you rinse. Maybe their skin is sensitive to it, or maybe it just doesn't bother me because I use tea tree oil on my skin a lot. Anyways, it's a great exfoliator, I find it very gentle but effective - no sharp edges, like in some scrubs. I really like the thicker formula, it's pretty moisturizing for an exfoliating wash. I have a clay mask I do every other evening and I like to use this the morning after I do a mask - so I use it every other day. I also use it in the shower, even though some said not to. I think as long as you run your hands over your face to make sure nothing's left on there before you open your eyes, you'll be fine.
