love these lip stains. already had hope, but it broke, so i was excited to see this three pack deal. they definitely have a drier texture, due to their matte nature, but nothing a light lip balm (e.g., eos) won't help, while still maintaining a fairly matte and natural look. really like all three shades, but of couse, that'll vary person to person and complexion to complexion.

Quick Take: too light, pale
These colors are way to light if you're something like NC40...they really just look like the same color as your lips are, and if you're going to do that you might as well just use a balm and get more out of it.

Love the trio... except for the very light pink. A little too pink for me. Don't need lip liner with these and they go great alone or under lip gloss. Big thumbs up!

Quick Take: drying
These were average, if that. I am glad I kept my reciept and after using just one of them, I don't think I will bother with the other two and back to the store they will go. Should have saved my money on this one, they are not a great value if you can't use them. I felt like they were drying and the colours did not work well for me.

Quick Take: off color, cakey, drying
I purchased "Exposed" at a store. I didn't try it on because I don't like using the testers. It looked fine on the pad of my hand, but nothing like what I expected when applied to my lips. It appears to be a medium/neutral brown which would have been perfect, but it barely shows on my lips. Looks more light a "light" pink and it only looks worse as the hours pass. Very cakey and dry looking. Needless to say, I'm disappointed.

Better for women of color

Quick Take: creamy and smooth
These are awesome but the sheer ones don't show up on women if color as well as the matte ones do. yet thw matte ones are still a little light in color. Try them in the store first, since 24 dollars each is pricey for sheer gloss.

Great matte colors. They can be drying when worn by themselves, however, I have been wearing them with Smith's Rosebud Salve and they've been working for me beautifully. If you do choose to do both the lip tint and some sort of gloss/salve, make sure whatever you overlay on top is clear so the colors stay true. Good value for all 3 though.

Quick Take: nice colors, pigmented
I just love matte lip products and this is what I call matte! I love the colors because it's pretty neutral or nude on lips. My favorite one would be the middle one and I would recommend wearing chapstick/lip balm under neath before applying this on. This way it wouldn't be totally drying. It's pretty dry because it's matte and it's winter season.

Quick Take: drying, great clolors, wears off
They dry my lips out, even when using chapstick underneath. The do not last more than an hour. The colors are mostly great, you do have to build them on a bit. I have very pale skin so the pink is a little too pink, but the other colors I love. While it is a great price for three lip tints, I wouldn't suggest buying them.

Quick Take: dry dull texture/color
I really wanted to like this set because I've bought other Tarte Lip Surgence products, but these are dry and dull looking. They aren't put together very well either. One of the lipsticks fell out of the holder when I opened it. The colors aren't as pretty as they appeared online. I guess that's what happens when you order without actually seeing the product. I wouldn't buy these again.

Let me start by saying that I adore matte products on my lips. If you don't, then this might not be the product for you...
I read many reviews saying they were drying, which I don't agree with. I think they are the most moisturizing matte lip products I've ever tried. Yes they may be more drying than the other lip surgences, but that is because there is no gloss in there (hence, matte).
A lot of the reviews also stated that the tints were very coral, which I also don't agree with. But I guess you need to take into consideration the fact skin-tones can bring out different results.
I'm pretty fair, green eyes, medium brown hair.
If you love matte lips, this is a set you shouldn't miss!

Quick Take: long-lasting
I love the tarte lipsurgence luster so these were a surprise for me. I knew they were matte and I hadn't tried that before. I do still like them and I love the range of colors in this but although I didn't feel like they were drying like some reviews had stated, I did find it a little harsh for me personally. I guess I'm a gloss/luster kinda girl. Still like these but probably won't use them as often as the lusters which I use a lot.

The colors were way too bland for me. I'm not one to wear really bold colors either...it just didnt look like I was wearing anything at all... Why bother paying for something that doesnt do anything? Im pale and it doesnt take much. I was surprised at all the positive reviews of this product. Totally disappointed and returned them for more Benefit tints.

What I've Been Searching For

Quick Take: non-drying, pigmented, good value
I have tremendous trouble with most lip products drying out my lips. Not so much while wearing them, but over the next day or so after they've worn off-- most everything has my lips cracked, peeling and even bleeding in a pretty disgusting display after just a couple wears. While I can't say that the LipSurgence pencils ADD moisture, they certainly don't take it away, and I can wear them day after day without trouble. The peppermint oil, while not overwhelming, is soothing and does seem to have a very slight plumping effect (nothing miraculous, just a tiny boost).
This set is a good value considering the standard price of each one (and these are full size). Not as good a deal as the set of five Sephora's also offering, but I thought these colors looked more my speed. I love a good matte shade.
Exposed is by far the best one of the bunch, but all of them are pretty natural and wearable. A lot of stuff tends to present as overly peachy or even orange on my skin tone, but I actually don't find these too peachy-pink or unpleasant. They're soft and traditional, but not insipid. Exposed is a sophisticated neutral, Lucky a dewy petal pink, and Hope a slightly darker berry juice color. Liking them as much as I did, I checked out all the others in-store, considering getting something non-matte, but I actually didn't find anything else in the collection that I liked as well.
I've been wearing all three in rotation for a couple of weeks, and they just grow on me more and more.

Amazing Matte Nudes

Quick Take: velvety, nude
These are all very beautiful wear-able colors! Even the darkest shade, Hope is absolutely gorgeous! The texture is velvety and slightly creamy. Probably not the most moisturizing, but definitely not drying.
"Exposed" goes like the perfect nude on me.
"Hope" is like a washed down matte-fied berry peach color.
"Lucky" is like a soft pink nude. This one's probably too light for me so I'm giving it to someone with lighter skin tones.
Overall, I definitely feel like I like this set better than the one that came in 5 for $29. These colors are all very wearable and even appropriate for school/work or anywhere where you don't want to look too dressed up but just polished (like an interview). These are a great value as well! I got it 20% off so it was an even bigger steal! Definitely get them if/when they get back in stock!

I absolutely adore this set. I see that it's not in stock anymore, but if you like matte lip colors then you should definitely try to get your hands on this when it comes back in stock.
The colors in this set are so lovely, a light pink, a peachier nude, and a berry rosey color. Apply lightly for tint or heavier for a more pigmented look. The product is not drying like some matte lipstick/lipstains are. They are moisturizing and smell minty-ish. The colors last for a long time. However when I eat, I do notice that some of the color does rub off, but reapplying is so easy.
I've been using this set ever since I got it. I LOVE it. I really like "exposed" one for everyday and 'lucky' when I want a bit of soft pink lip and 'hope' for romantic lip.
OVERALL: This trio is such a great deal, it rounds out to be like 10-11 dollars per pencil. The product is awesome and the colors are all wearable. They are pigmented, blendable and moisturizing with mint scent.

Where have you been all my life?

Quick Take: plumping, moisturizing, matte
I'll start by saying that I am not a lipstick or a lip gloss person. Lip gloss is too shiny and doesn't provide enough color for my tastes, while lipstick is annoying in that it slides around and gets all over my teeth and everything else my lips touches.
Perhaps I'm not using either product correctly, but I've nonetheless been searching high and low for something that could my lips the hint of color I wanted without screaming "I'M WEARING LIPSTICK/LIP GLOSS," and that wouldn't drive me crazy all day long. After reading lots of reviews, and trying another lip crayon which was way too much like a lipstick, I settled on this product, and it's just about perfect.
It gives my lips a deep, gorgeous color without looking like I'm wearing anything -- just the look I was going for. But, unlike other somewhat similar products I've tried (e.g. Revlon Colorstay) it still has some moisture so it feels almost like a light chapstick, and while It doesn't slide around too much, it still feels like I can quickly refresh it with a lip-smack or two.
One of the reviews mentioned that it has natural plumping properties, but I didn't buy it for a second, and that wasn't why I bought this product. However, despite having totally forgotten that claim by the time I tried it on, I was immediately reminded when I looked in the mirror after applying it and saw an amazing va-va-voom pucker staring back. Where did those come from?? Maybe the color simply accentuates the fullness of my lips, or maybe the mint oil actually works, but either way, this product makes my lips look a-maz-ing. Don't expect miracles, but this was a nice bonus.
In terms of the colors, I have light brown skin, and I found the Hope to be the best shade for me, with Exposed a close second (I would guess this is the most universal shade). I could pull of Lucky if I wanted, though it doesn't really give the "au naturel" vibe I was going for. It might be good for times when I'm trying to make more of a statement.
The one downside is that it does seem to dry out more quickly than others have said (~3-4 hours) and then it can get a bit gunky, so I have to remove and reapply, which is kind of a pain.
The price is right on for this combo pack. If you are interested in a subtle, work-appropriate tint that will make your lips subtly beautiful without annoying you, this is the one!
