Quick Take: defining, lengthening
This is the best mascara I've ever used. Its the only mascara that doesn't clump with application and it has fiber-like things that lengthens. It gives my lashes a very natural look. I always get compliments with this on. With other mascaras I have to comb through my lashes to separate and de-clump them, but not with this mascara. What I especially like is that it doesn't really smudge when I'm removing it so I don't look like a raccoon. And I don't have to use a q-tip or go through extra steps to remove it.
Hands down, best mascara I've used!

Quick Take: flaky, clumpy
I usually really like Shiseido products - they are great for Asian skin. I received a sample of this with my Sephora online order and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to what I thought were Shiseido standards.
The mascara when applied, looks great for the first couple of hours and then it starts flaking off like crazy. At the end of the day, I would have extreme dark circles and black flakes on my face.
Would not purchase again.

I first used this in a sample and thought it was great enough to order the full size. It works OK, lengthens pretty good, but not as good as the sample. I have noticed this a few other times with sample products that I purchase in full size. It's a mystery to me.

The tube has a wide mouth which allows a lot of mascara onto the brush. This does make the brush "wet" as described in other reviews...but I personally like that because I feel like I am getting maximum coverage. The brush design allows you to work out any areas that may have caused the lashes to clump together. I do not have clumpy lashes, I love the full coverage & I think it gives amazing definition.

I normally love Shiseido so I was very excited when I recieved a sample of this. This mascara was unusually wet and messy. I noticed alot of small particals that looked like some type of fibers on the brush and decided to give it a try anyways; the result was bad as it clumped horribly, so much so that I had to remove it completely and start fresh with a different brand. Glad I didn't spend money on it.

Doesn't hold curl

The deal breaker for me for any mascara is whether or not it can hold a curl and this one doesn't. I was really expecting it would since Shiseido is a Japanese brand and I had a good experience with their discontinued Lasting Lift mascara. Whereas Lasting Lift was essentially waterproof, Perfect Mascara Full Definition is definitely not waterproof nor water-resistant.
Some positives: The brush really clings on to each lash and stretches them out, which helps position the fibers properly. The black is very dark and inky.
I don't want to return it since I don't want to take advantage of Sephora's generous return policy, so I'll be layering this on top of a waterproof mascara to add length while still retaining a curl.

I love the final look of this mascara! My lashes look full and it adds a lot of length to them. That said, it takes a lot to get there. I have to put on several coats of it, just to cover up the white of my primer and to get the lashes shaped how I want them. It also has little fibers in it that attach to the lashes and make them longer (and they really work!), but they tend to get in my eye sometimes and they hurt terribly to get out. Most days, the cons outweigh the pros and I use a faster and easier mascara, but nights out and special occasions definitely call for this one!

Over the past couple of years I have been on the hunt for the perfect mascara, and I have to say this is the closest I have come. It does not smear or smudge during the day & is so easy to wash off ( no scrubbing). The only downside would be that it does not seperate lashes as much as I hoped, but overall a great mascara!

I was quite shocked that LL was discontinued as that was the best mascara I have ever used, and I have used more brands than I could imagine (from cheap to the very expensive). The sales rep at a department store told me this is the mascara which was meant to replace LL and it definitely does not. This mascara has little hair-like pieces I guess to volumize but I never know if it's my eyelashes that are on the brush or just those annoying fibers. The formula, the brush, the way it clumps off during the day is just terrible. I ended up using it to see if it gets better as it gets little older (some get better after a week or so) and it is just a disappointment. Will never buy again. I love shiseido but I'm frustrated with them that they discontinued many good products which I fell in love with.

I received a sample size of this with my online order. Didn't think too much of it on my first try, but after a few attempts I got the hang of brushing upwards and outwards for optimal results. I have short straight lashes and this formula really lifts and volumizes. I just purchased the full size.

If you are looking for volume, this is not your mascara...what this mascara does deliver though, is spidery seperation...lots of length. The key to this mascara is triple coats...I found that 3 coats gives me the perfect look!

I miss Lasting Lift! This is no substitute for it. It's not altogether bad, it goes on nicely, doesn't smudge and cleans off easily. But it doesn't do anything to help my lashes stay curled.
The search begins for another curling mascara...

I got a free sample with a recent Sephora order and loved it. It makes my lashes look really full. It kind of has a "wet" look, but doesn't smudge or run. The sample was black, and I bought a full-size one in brown (I usually find black mascaras too dark for everyday wear). Both colors look great and do not clump.

My lashes look much longer and appear fuller. I am making this my go to. Does start to clump after 2 coats, but 2 is certainly enough. No running, but getting it off requires heavy duty guns (oil based remover).

The wand is genius for short thin lashes! I've tried most top sellers like Dior and although I love the formulation and wear, the wand is way too big for my short lashes. This formulation is smooth and glides on easy with no clumps which is important for thickness. Love it!

I love this mascara, the brush and the formula! I have skimpy, short, thin lashes and this is the best mascara for them. The brush is small enough to reach inside the root of your lashes. You must try this one!

Long time Shiseido skincare fan, and now officially a Shiseido mascara fan! This mascara defines and adds volume to my skinny lashes. I use the Sephora Collection lash curler first and then this mascara, and then, ta-daa! Amazing lashes!
