I LIKED THIS ITEM--IT DOES FEEL LIKE VELVET BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I HAD WET NAIL POLISH AND PRESSED IT AGAINST A FABRIC. IT IS EASY TO USE AND NOT VERY MESSY SINCE THEY PROVICE A PLASTIC TRAY CATCH THE CRUSHED VELVET PARTICLES. IT SEEMES TO STAY ON LONGER THAN OTHER NAIL POLISHES. I WORK WITH MY HANDS SO IT IS CHIPPED AT THE TIPS BY THE END OF THE WEEK. BUT I FEEL THAT I LASTS LONGER THAN THE CHEAP NAIL POLISH YOU GET AT THE STORES.

So easy and looks fantastic! All my friends and even strangers compliment me on it. Dries instantly and lasts at least a week. The color itself looks great too

Save your $$$
-04.08.13
Quick Take: a waste of time and $$$
I had high hopes for this set. I looked at it on line a few times and watched the demo video. I am a beginner as far as "nail art" goes and I was worried it was going to be a little complicated for me. That is the only reason I gave it 1 star (it was very simple). The Velvet finish lasted until I washed my hands the first time (about an hour after it was finished and dried). I was so upset!!! The color of the nail polish was ok. I wasn't thrilled about that either. I was hoping it was going to be darker and a deeper purple. The color was more of a berry shade from the 1980's. Not the updated shade I was hoping it would be. I sent the kit back. What a drag!

Very cool texture
-03.31.13
The texture is easy to apply, but I found the polish a bit lacking. I started over using OPI Diva of Geneva and they're a perfect match. Super easy!

Quick Take: chip resistent, long wearing, fast-drying, nice to touch
The only color left was the grey, so I decided to try it even though I wanted the red velvet. The application was easy and a fun experience. I had no problems with mess or smearing. The only problem I have is that after washing my hands a few times, the velvet gets hard. I would recommend cleaning your hands with sanitizer instead of water.

Quick Take: fast-drying, messy, innovative
look great, feels pretty cool but you have to act fast becaus ethe polish dries quickly and it needs to be wet for velvet to stick to it. Plus, it is a real mess, even with the track there will be crushed velvet everywhere

I got this as a Christmas present. The crushed velvet had actually stayed on my nails even after washing my hands several times. For the crushed velvet to stay on longer, you have to press your nail onto the velvet rather than sprinkling it. I also think you should avoid using nail polish remover to clean the mistakes because the velvet soaks it in and makes the velvet fall off easily.

Maybe if you bring it to a nail salon
-01.23.13
Theoretically it sounds great but practically it doesn't work. I debated bringing it to my nail salon to have them do it but then I thought, I just paid $20 for this and I'm going to pay again for a nail salon to apply it? I don't need velvet nails that bad. I returned this.

I'm not sure how other reviewers have been using the kit, but mine has stayed on for over a week now, and the velvet is only just now starting to thin. It looks fantatsic, and also feels great! I would recommend this to everybody. I have used the grey, but have also purchased the Berry and Navy. Cannot WAIT to try them all!

Just Okay :(
-01.17.13
I purchased the Caviar nail kit and loved it but went in know that a lot of the nonpareils would potentially fall off ofy nail within a few hours or so. I expected the Velvet nails to be a little better. The flocking powder stayed on my nails but was absorbed by the polish very rapidly. I had to apply many coats ( like 4) for it even to look slightly like velvet. But after a few more coats it looked okay. I feel like purchasing a matte top coat would give the same look just a different texture. I would maybe purchase another color if it was on extreme clearance. Overall it was just, okay.

Fun idea, but it doesn't last too long. The good velvet lasts about one day and then thins pretty quickly afterwards. One good thing is that the color of the polish is nice just on its own.

ehhhh
-01.08.13
I bought this nail polish for a friend for Christmas and thought it was so neat I bought one for myself. I purchased these online because it is rarely found in the stores. I was excited to try to out but was sadly disappointed after one day of wear. At first I loved it. After one day almost all the velvet had come off and my nails looked awful. I am debating whether to try the blue because maybe a darker color will look better but i'm not sure because of the price. Overall, great idea, but needs improvement.

Different, but nice!
-01.07.13
Quick Take: a nice change
I loved the look my nails had after I had applied the grey velvet. It is more of a 'one night only' for the nails to stay nice and velvety. BUT even after the soft texture started to wear off (from washing hands and showering), there was still a neat texture to my nails! So I kept it on for about a week! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it can get pretty messy, BUT the secret is to paint ONE nail at a time, apply the velvet, swipe off the extra, and then move on to the next nail. The polish seemed to dry pretty fast, and doing each nail as you go made the velvet adhere better and look great!

It was a little weird and felt more like dirt than velvet. It chipped after a day. I did like the color!

Works, but not with the given instructions
-01.04.13
I got these colors for Christmas, and before I tried them read all of these reviews. I was concerned because there were so many bad ones, but decided to try it for myself anyway. I did the first two nails using the instructions provided in the package (2 layers of polish and then sprinkle a heavy layer of the velvet powder and brush off the extra and let dry). These two nails, 5 days later did have that "matte" ugly look.
However on the rest of my nails I followed another reviewer's instructions, and it worked PERFECTLY. They're still in tact 5 days later. I would say put the first coat, let it dry. Do the second coat of polish, and then dip your nail directly into the powder container, coating it completely for a second or two. Then, take it out and lightly press the velvet powder down onto the nail with your finger. Wait for it to dry and at the end of completing all nails, dust off all of the extra.
They are still perfectly fuzzy and beautiful. Obviously any kind of rough actions on your nails will scrape off the velvet. But for the ones applied my way, I have showered 4 times, done dishes, gotten dressed, etc. and they are perfectly fine.
The only thing I will say, is that at least in the beginning, they do attract lint like NO OTHER which I had read in a different review.
Bottom line: It is pricey, and may not last 2 weeks, but It's a really cool effect, and if you do it this way it should stay on for up to a week.
