Wish it actually cleansed!
-05.17.13
Quick Take: hydrating, oily, smells nice
I was so excited to order this product, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem to cleanse my hair at all. I think the problem is that I have very fine, and VERY oily hair that needs to be washed daily. While the smell of this stuff is great, it doesn't work *at all* to get any of the oil out of my hair. If I just use this, my hair ends up drying very flat, no life, no volume, just a gross greasy mess that looks and feels even dirtier than it did before I washed it.
The reason that I give this 2 stars instead of 1 is that the effects I get from this are actually better than still using my old shampoo alone with the conditioner in this same line. Yes, I'm saying I use my old shampoo... then this... then the conditioner. The situation isn't ideal at all... but when I use the combination of these 3 my hair does come out with amazing curls and volume.
Before I started using this line of products my hair was at the cusp of not knowing most days whether it wanted to be curly or just a wavy, frizzy, out of control mess. At least by using this brand, my hair is finally coaxed into behaving into beautiful curls. Next time I'll try another shampoo they make and hope I get better results at cleansing.

Interesting

Quick Take: good for daily use
I tried and really like the Deva Curl spray gel so I thought I would try additional products from their line. I really like this shampoo but it does take a bit to get used to the absolutely no suds. My hair is clean and shiny and the curls are behaving!!

Curly hair in one use!! But my hair fell out :/
-05.07.13
I got this product because I wanted my hair to have bounce and curl again! I had bleach my hair 2 months ago and I'm assuming the bleach made my hair dry and poofy and it wouldn't curl any more. So the ladies at sephora was very helpful and advise me to use this! I like it after the first try!! When you put the gel and crunch it upward wit ur head facing the ground, my hair began to make its curls! I was amazed!! It works really well!! But my only PROBLEM is that alot of my hair fell off after I use the no-poo. And it's scary me!! I don't know if it's suppose to do that! I mean alot did fall out. So I wuld only use it on my days off wen I want to leave natural curls down. Other than that, it does make my hair curler than other shampoos I've use. Good luck!

does as it says
-05.05.13
Quick Take: hydrating, good for daily use
I ordered this in the largest size available through Sephora and very glad I did.The product does as it says. I have tried many products claiming to work for frizzy, curly hair as I have and they have fallen short every time. To date this is the best product that has worked for me. I would and will buy this again.

Totally sold on Devacurl
-05.04.13
Quick Take: hydrating, good for daily use, smoothing, defining, softening, holy grail product for curls
My awesome new hairstylist (who knows curls) used this on my updated curly bob & gave me great, very specific tips on how to best utilize the whole line when I went to her for the first time. By the time my hair dried in perfectly smooth, soft ringlets with perfect curl pattern I was sold on these products. Paired with a good curly cut this entire line is a game-changer.
**Disclaimer: I'm about to get way over the top with this review, but if you want super soft, super defined curls, this is how to get 'em. Reader Discretion Advised**
There are some important factors I was lucky enough to be clued in on from the get-go by my stylist, most of which have to do with how to properly use the rest of the line... But if you're buying the NoPoo, you should really just go with the other products as they work in conjunction. So here goes:
1. Start with NoPoo. It's lather free. Get used to it, basically.
Make sure your hair is really soaked when you apply it, the wetter the better. You can scrub it in to your scalp any which way, but after that you want to really pay attention to what you're doing & use the right technique. This can make a HUGE difference in the effect of these products. Do it right & your hair texture & curl pattern will probably astound you.
2. Don't *ever* run/comb your fingers (or a comb!) through your curls at any point after shampooing. Just don't do it. It's hard to break the habit, but so, so essential! If you need to detangle, I'd say comb while you NoPoo--it's such a conditioning cleanser that you don't have to worry about breakage or anything.
3. Rinse any old which way.
4. Again, make sure hair is nice & soaked, and scrunch One Condition into your hair starting at the ends. My stylist showed me how to do it "in threes" for even distribution. Scrunch each section in threes: once gathering the very ends (1), then again gathering from the bottom to halfway up the hair shaft (2), then one more time from the bottom all the way up to the scalp, 1-2-3. And repeat in sections all over head.
5. Rinse hair carefully. Again NOT combing through it, only tilting head forward or side to side & scrunching gently to help rinse hair clean.
6. I use the styling cream & the defining gel, and I use them before I dry my hair. Apparently you can mix these products together before applying, but I prefer to do cream first, then gel, since they are technically supposed to provide separate functions.
7.Use the same 1,2,3 method to apply cream & gel, as in step 4.
8. You want to get used to leaving as much moisture in hair as possible when you go to add styling products, and even-somewhat confusingly- when drying your hair. And here's why: the defining gels (they have Light & Ultra, I generally use Light) have a very specific function. They use moisture left in the hair to define curl pattern when scrunched in, then curls tighten up as the product dries. The gels dry in what they call a "cast" around each curl, which you then "break" by scrunching again once hair is completely dry. This is why it's so important not to disturb curl pattern when it's wet by combing etc. Hair dries crunchy, stiff and *very* defined in the cast, but once you scrunch it again (when 100% dry) the curls soften into smooth, soft ringlets that are full & bouncy. It's kind of amazing, actually.
9. *Now* dry. Don't use a regular towel, they're actually too absorbent, use a microfiber towel, an old cotton T-shirt or even paper towels in a pinch. At this point I sometimes scrunch in a small amount more gel in select areas if need be after toweling.
10. Don't manhandle your hair when drying. Don't go nuts & rub at the scalp or hair with the towel. Only gentle scrunches, and ideally not very many of them, at that. Again, don't run your fingers through it, and don't mess with it a bunch with your hands as it's drying. Remember! It's alll about preserving the curl pattern! If you need to adjust the way your hair falls, do it while hair is still super wet, with little shakes with your fingertips at the crown of your head. If you absolutely must so some detail work to encourage a lazy wayward curl or two, use your fingertips while hair is still very wet and twist or spiral individual curls gently at ends, with two fingers. You can do this once or twice more as hair drys to maintain these curls if needed.
11. This is the time to put in metal curl-clips, if you're going to. I highly recommend this. It adds volume at the crown where it's most important to avoid triangle head, and it also helps curls fall in nice, defined downward ringlets.
12. Air drying after a quick scrunch is preferable. I have blow dried my hair a couple times since starting DevaCurl, and it works fine enough, just with very different effects. If you think about the process of blow-drying curls, it defeats the purpose of the gel-cast system. The diffuser disturbs the curl pattern the entire time it's in your hair, keeping the gel from ever forming the cast (the same reason you don't mess with your hair when it's air drying). Basically, you'd end up with a decent enough style: plenty of volume, but wilder, undefined curls with more texture (read: frizz). They won't have a nice, even downward spiral pattern, but bendy waves & s-pattern curls instead. Think the difference between early Carrie Bradshaw with big, textured hair with small waves & bends, versus later Carrie Bradshaw with a frizz-free curly bob with even, downward spiraling ringlets.
It might take longer for hair to dry this way, and it's near impossible not to mess with it during that time, annnd it might not be realistic every day for some curly ladies... But if you can take the time and patience to do it this way, you will be rewarded with perfect curls.

Horrible
-04.28.13
I love to use shampoos that are conditioning cleansers for my natural curly hair. But this one was HORRIBLE!! It smells gross! It smells like a strong medicine! If you use quite a bit of product in your curly hair like I do(gel, oils, hairspray) this will not clean your hair of buildup! After about the 3rd "shampoo" my hair had bad dandruff!!! I mean BAD! And I never had that problem until I used this! I had to clarify my hair well with a regular shampoo to cleanse my scalp. This isn't worth the money to me. It is way to expensive & doesn't work for my curly hair! Disappointed.

I recently bought the travel kit of the DevaCurl line. I was tired of my hair always looking drab and dry. I tell you, I just ordered full sizes of the products. I absolutely love this whole line for curly hair!!! The No Poo takes a bit getting used to because it doesn't lather, but I tell you, my hair has never been so soft and looks so great!!

Despite the non lather, my hair felt very clean and conditioned after use. Not a fan of the scent, a little too rosey for me. That said, it doesn't seem to linger long in your hair.

Perfect for Curly Hair
-04.11.13
Quick Take: hydrating, smoothing
I love this shampoo! Not only is is good for your hail, but it leaves my hair so soft and clean. I try not to wash my hair daily because it tends to get dry. This shampoo keeps my hair clean and soft from one shampoo to the next. I also find that I am now using less conditioner (I also use DevaCurl Conditioner) because the shampoo leaves my hair soo soft by itself. AND it smells great. It is strange at first that it doesn't lather, but the results are wonderful!

Quick Take: hydrating
I tried No-Poo for about 2 months, my hairdresser advised that my hair & scalp will love it. My hair looked great, but my scalp did not. The longer I used it, my hair seemed heavier, and my scalp became increasingly irritated. I do tend to have sensitive skin, so this shampoo was not for me.

The best!
-04.09.13
Quick Take: hydrating, good for daily use, smoothing
This shampoo is amazing. I had been looking to try something new since the last shampoo I tried made my scalp dry but hair greasier more quickly somehow. So I looked into sulfate-free shampoos and tried a few and this is by far my favorite. I have long, colored, and wavy/curly hair and it has helped a lot even in the first week I've been using it. My scalp isn't itchy anymore, my hair is so soft and not getting greasy, and is so shiny! Also my long hair is much more manageable, it isn't tangling hardly at all and my waves and curls are much smoother.

I switched from regular shampoo to this a year and a half ago and it's hands down the best thing I've ever done for my hair! It took a couple weeks for my scalp to adjust, but once it did I found my hair was less frizzy, less dry, and much healthier overall

Softer and Smoother hair
-04.08.13
Quick Take: soft, smooth, good smell, clean
For first few times, I wanted to go back to regular shampoo as it felt like grease and dirt were left behind. However, after a few weeks of using this product, my hair is softe, smoother and easier to manage. I practice hot yoga so I feel my hair got drier but I do not feel that way any more. I use two to three pumps of product for each wash and massage onto scalp to clean the root. I do not apply conditioner but my hair is still very soft.

I have been using No-Poo for over a year and love it! It is free of all the bad stuff - sulfates, parabens, and silicone. When I first started using it, I thought it was weighing my hair down, but I realized I wasn't scrubbing my scalp well enough while rinsing. That is the trick!

-02.26.13
My hair is changing texture as I am aging, and my stylist recommended this shampoo with the matching conditioner. Right away, my hair got smoother and shinier while using the natural curl I had developed to an advantage instead of a frizzy disadvantage. With other products, my hair was either greasy in a day or dry and frizzy. Even when I wash my hair daily or every 3 days, my hoar looks great! One thing to get used to though is the fact this product does NOT lather!
