What it is:A couture antiaging formula, handmade in a monastery. What it is formulated to do:This supremely effective formula is the ultimate age-delaying solution. It is proven to reduce the depth and length of wrinkles, increase skin elasticity and firmness, and provide instant and long-lasting hydration. It is enriched with meadowfoam seed oil, a unique, nourishing fatty acid that plumps and firms the complexion and improves overall elasticity. A dose of vitamin E provides antioxidant protection against free-radical damage, and beeswax and chamomile wax eradicate dry spots, soften the skin, and create a light moisture-preserving veil. What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates- Synthetic Fragrances- Synthetic Dyes- Petrochemicals- Phthalates- GMOs- TriclosanWhat else you need to know:This exclusive complex is inspired by the world's first cream, created by Claude Galen, esteemed doctor to Emperor Marcus Aurelius, in the 2nd century A.D. to heal gladiators' wounds. To preserve its rich history and supreme quality, each jar is hand-blended and hand-filled in a European monastery. The precious waxes that give the cream its rich consistency require hand-blending to maintain their delicate structures. They have varying melting points, absorbing into the skin at different rates to deliver continuous, long-lasting moisture.

too heavy and waxy
-06.08.13
This product is not absorbed by the skin. It sits on top of the skin and makes make-up application impossible.

Splurge
-05.15.13
Quick Take: intensive
I would have given 5 stars if it contained sunscreen and had a lower price point. That being said, it is a worthwhile splurge if you have it in your budget. I use it daily under my make up as it works as a great "primer" that is doubles as a corrective cream for age related issues. I like that it is heavy enough to cover retinol related flaking, yet does not make me look shiny/oily. Most use it at night but I like that it feels like it shields my face from brutal wind at the coast and I can top it with make up that contains sunscreen.

FANTASTIC
-04.27.13
Quick Take: absorbs quickly, intensive, smooth
Like several other women here, I used to use Creme de la Mer for a long time. Suddenly it was like it started attacking my skin... anyway, I researched quite a bit while I used pure aloe to soothe my skin in the meantime. It was terribly red and irritated and itchy. Needless to say, I ordered this creme and I am SO HAPPY with it! It really smooths on nicely, and my skin texture is amazing... very hydrated without getting saggy... fills in lines and wrinkles. I am thrilled with it and will continue to use it!! If you have very dry skin and have changing hormones (menopause), whatever the problem, this is definitely a great answer. I LOVE the results.

Fresh Crème Ancienne
-04.26.13
Quick Take: absorbs quickly, intensive, brightening
I love this eye cream. It is a heavy rich cream but I just rub my finger over the cream and apply it to my eyes. I'm over 60 and my eyes had started looking dry and sallow. Using Crème Ancienne adds a little puffiness to my eyes that were really tired, sagging and dry looking.

I travel alot and am sometimes on a plane for long hours. Because of that my skin dehydrates terribly. This saves it! Yes it is thick but as others have mentioned a little goes a very long way and i recommend it just at bedtime so who cares if it is "balmy".

I wanted to LOVE this cream so badly! I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and i see absolutly no difference in my skin. I will admit I have good skin to begin with but I am starting to show wrinkles around my mouth area. This cream is very expensive for no results. I appreciate the way it is made especially since I cannot use any retinols but! I will keep it because iI am hoping for a miracle and I hate sending things back! Won't waste my money again.

I have tried everything. I was currently using La Mer which was breaking out my face..I am 45. At the suggestion of one of the Sephora reps I tried this cream. It is fabulous. It is very thick however, for me its perfect. I use it morning and night. I also use glycolic acid everday so this cream helps with any flaking and does NOT cause acne..I love it!! stocking up!!

So far, so good
-01.10.13
Quick Take: luxurious
I have not been using this long, but I will say it is a great cream for those with dry or flaky skin from winter or retinol products. Most use this at night. I use during the day as a winter protectant & primer for my make up. It is heavy but not oily looking. It does feel heavy on the face and to the touch, but it does make my skin look young and fresh all day without getting the "shine" that oily products can create. Worth the splurge if you need that extra umph in your moisturizer.

Best anti-aging cream out there
-11.08.12
Quick Take: intensive
I've used this non-stop for the past 6 years or so. Having said that, I've been so pleased by this, I keep buying it over and over. I noticed that wrinkles don't seem to develop when I actively use it - only at night, because this cream is VERY rich, so it may be hard to use this and then put on makeup. But for a night cream this is amazing. You'll wake up with skin feeling supple and moist. My fountain of youth!

Great product!

I am 43, live in NYC, and am prone to dry skin. I have noticed a smooth glow to my skin which reminds me of my younger self : ) I let this product settle into my skin and then apply a loose dusting of powder. Worth the precious dollars. If you struggle with dry skin, this is great, even in the humid summer. A little goes a long way with this product.

This is one item I will not be without, I used to use Creme de la mer and have been using this for years, works great and lasts a long time as I only use it as a night cream for my eyes and around my lips.

Amazing
-09.01.12

I got a deluxe sample of this and did not have high hopes. I was intrigued by the history of the formula and the high quality ingredients. My skin is combo, some dry patches but not the type that this cream is made for. This cream is very waxy, and has a solid feel. I rubbed the top to "melt" it enough to apply to my forehead, undereye, and around my fine lines. It felt very thick and did not really sink in. I could see this being the last step in any routing to lock in moisture. When I woke up the next morning.....WOW. Zero puffiness, my dark circles vanished, my skin was glowing where I had applied it. I know there is an eye cream formula, but for the size/price I will be using this as an eye cream. Its amazing. A tiny bit goes a long way and I can see my sample lasting 2-3 months using it this way. If this does not make me break out I will buy it forever!! The results are just phenomenal.

Not worth the money!
-08.18.12
Very disappointed in this product. I am 47 and went to Sephora in search of a firming and anti-aging product. This is so very thick. I applied very sparingly and still had it on my face the next morning and it definitely doesn't firm. Consistency of lard. Returned product after 3 days of use.

INCREDIBLE night creme
-07.19.12
Quick Take: the bomb
I'm hooked.
I love a good thick moisturizing night creme....that's how they are supposed to be! I love that it's not sticky or has any tightening properties to it. Yes, it's thick....and if you aren't used to it, it might feel like you have gobs on your skin - but I SWEAR TO YOU....your skin will LOVE YOU in the morning.... this is the ultimate antiaging creme!!!

A beautiful creme that I wanted to love...
-05.24.12
I had to return this creme, which has a nice scent and a rich moisturizing texture, after it made me break out.
I used this product under my eyes and on other parts of my face, and although it did improve those areas upon initial application, it didn't seem to provide lasting moisturization.
I have tried many products and don't mind spending money for the right products (this one being the most expensive I've tried.) I ended up settling on a drugstore brand of products with ceramides in them and I can use those products all over my face, including under my eyes without irritation.
I also use Fresh Lotus Eye Gel and love that product.

Magical monk cream!
-05.21.12
Quick Take: intensive
I would agree with the other reviewers - this cream is really thick going on, and I only wear it at night since it does take a while to absorb - but it DOES absorb and in the morning, my skin looks fantastic! I actually can't wait to wash my face at night (or right when I get home because I simply can't wait for this level of pampering!). The scent is unlike anything I've experienced - I love it - not medicinal. It is soothing, not irritating - it's not like some products that you can feel "working" and you're wondering what it's doing to your skin.
I tried a bit on the back of my sister's hands and now she wants more "monk cream" - good thing I bought the larger size. Yes, it's the most expensive thing I've purchased, but I wouldn't be without it. If you need a great night cream, I think this would be it.
