Great Relaxer! - 11.13.09

Quick Take: gentle

I've been using this relaxer for almost 6 months now, and so far so good. It doesn't burn me and it's very gentle. I picked index 1 because I don't want bone straight hair, and I have fine hair so I need a little texture. Just follow the instructions and use all the products they provide in the kit. I have my hair dresser apply it (every 8) weeks so as to avoid any issues. It's pricey, but worth it. As a bonus, they provide samples of a shampoo and conditioner that work in conjunction with each other.

I have used the Phytospecific Index 1 straightener a couple of times now and I really like it. My hair seems to be much healthier since I stopped using a regular relaxer and began using this product.

Didn't Do The Job - 11.09.09

Quick Take: easy to use, multi-step

People raved about this relaxer.I used it a few months on my color treated hair.I always noticed my roots were never straight enough.This became a problem because my hair grows fast,need to relax 3wks,4 at the most.I called PhytoUniverse located here in New York,did this twice.I was told to leave it on even longer,more than 20 min,more like 40min.Well I ended up finding a different no lye relaxer that workes for me better,& way cheaper ( Profectiv $9) for a six month supply.I'm much happier now

Second Review: A Wonderful Touch-Up - 11.04.09

Quick Take: wonderful

After five weeks of flawless hair...week six rolled around and things were not so good. I had over two inches of new growth and it was time for a touch-up. I had the relaxer applied in the same way...and the results were consistent! My hair came out full of body, manageable, and extremely soft. This time after I shelled out gas money for a month:), they also included samples of their hair shampoo and mask. Ladies it's wonderful! The shampoo goes on nice and clean and rinses out the same way...no left over suds like other brands. And the mask literally infused my hair with essential oils that made my scalp look and feel healthier. I don't know if I can afford to buy the full size versions of their other products right now, but I will continue to purchase the Phytorelaxer. It truly is worth it. Quick Take: easy to use

It's been five weeks since I've used this relaxer. I have thick, healthy afro- textured hair. I've used lye relaxers for the last nine years and have had no problems. However, I wanted to try this new relaxer since I heard great things about it. I also chose Index 1 because I am interested in a more textured look. I took it to the salon and had my stylist applied it to my hair. My hair came out very straight and shiny. However, days after I noticed some shedding, more than I was accustomed to. I treated my hair with protein and a special rinse and the shedding has subsided. I still really would like to give it another chance. My hair continues to grow and remains healthy. I'm also enjoying the new texture and looking forward to having a head full of this new texture. I will definitely follow up with a second review after my next use.

Also, please do not be fooled. This product does contain the chemical guanidine cabonate. It is a no lye relaxer. What sets it apart from other no lye relaxers is that it has a very good conditioning component and doesn't dry out the hair like other no lyes. Also, some people will experience some breaking and shedding when switching from lye to no lye. I may have been one of those people. However, this can be fixed easily with proper care and use of the right products.

Fabulous - 10.28.09

Quick Take: easy to use

I have been using this product for 5 yrs. It is the only relaxer that don't burn my scalp. The phyto line is what help my hair to grow after losing my hair to other products that was been using on my hair. I highly recommed this product to others. I have 5 sisters and all five are now using this product after seeing what it did for me.

phyto is excellent - 10.27.09

I haven't worn a relaxer in years; phyto has brought me back to relaxers for now. I have very thick hair and my hair is so soft and healthy looking after this relaxer.

The Best Review for the Best Hair Product Out!!!! - 09.09.09

Quick Take: easy to use, multi-step, quick results

I've never had a "box" relaxer before...always went to the salon and used lye based relaxers that I found over the last 12 months starting to thin out my thick long African American hair. My cousin had been using this product for years and finally convinced me to try it. I was reluctant to dish out $60 (really reluctant...I'm a grad student:) just for the relaxer itself. I was used to paying less than that for a salon relaxer, trim, and style. But I did it...AND I"M SO GLAD I DID!!! Ladies let me tell you my hair has so much body and movement. It is not bone straight and sticking to my scalp like some other salon relaxers leave your hair. It flows and looks and feels healthy. It's been 3 weeks and I've washed my hair and used the milky re-constructor that comes with it (they give you a lot) and my hair is still flawless. All my friends are so jealous because their hair is shedding from those "other" (you know their names) harsh relaxers. I LOVE IT and as long as it keeps my hair looking like this I will not be using anything else. Look out for my second review when I get my touch-up done. I will keep it real, because I wouldn't want anyone spending any amount of money on a product that does not perform at my very high quality standards.

Amazing for Black hair - 09.09.09

Quick Take: easy to use, great results for silky smooth hair and, a wonderful healthy look. you will get compliments, and love your hair!

This product is the ONLY straightener I will ever use on my hair. No breakage, works well and I only need the delicate (Index 1) on my medium coarse, natural Black hair to get great results. Soft and silky curls (I use a gel afterwards) that last for 8-12 weeks. I only have to use it 4 times a year instead of 6-way better for my hair which is finally growing. A great shampoo and conditioner round out the package- you only need a little of these so they last way beyond the relaxer (which I get to use twice since I just need a touch-up on new growth.) Worth the price, a great value and your hair stays healthy which allows it to grow. Buy this one and leave the cheaper stuff alone. You are worth it!

Straight No! healthy-Yes! - 09.06.09

Quick Take: what we need to use

I think if you're looking for bone straight hair this product is not for you. If you're looking for healthy vibrant hair that is relaxed and managable then this product is for you. I have very very thick hair. My hair was in braids for 4 months. I did not have a perm in over 5 months. I went to my hair care professional to have this done. I did not burn and I have a very very sensitive scalp. No shedding of hair or odor. The application was easy. I sat for 25 minutes with not one scratch burn or tingle to my scalp. The reconstructioner was applied and then my hair dresser wrapped my head in a warm steamed towel. That part felt great!
After the normal trim and style, I was very pleased to see that I had a beautiful head of hair.

This is a wonderful product. Again, if you're looking for bone straight hair this product is not for you.

Last but not least, this is a pricey application so be prepared to pay at the salon or if you do it yourself.
