My only constructive criticism is that for the price, I wish the company would separate the Straightening Cream into two packets in the event one needs two touchups instead of a full head use. Measuring it yourself can be very messy, wasteful, and you can end up measuring it inaccurately, if you only need to use half.

Fantastic!
-04.26.13
Quick Take: easy to use, just follow instruction
This product is fantastic, I have been using it since last year, and my hair looks really different, it looks like if I never used any relaxer, my hair looks naturally, So I really recommend it, one suggestion is to buy the product to a dealer, like Sephora! PHYTOSPECIFIC website mentioned Sephora as retailer.

I wore my hair relaxer free for a while and could not find a product to loosen my tight curls while not weighing down my already loose curls. I used products that cost 20$ to 100 dollars each and nothing worked perfectly. My natural hair has wavy, springy and curly coily curls in it, so I had a battle of textures to deal with. This product loosens my tight curls while maintaining my other curls. My hair does not break anymore and it is growing very fast.
It would be nice if this company could divide the relaxer for the consumer into two different pouches and then place them into the main container. For the price of this product, the consumer should not have to worry about measuring half of the relaxer accurately when two touch-ups are needed.

AMAZING!!!

Quick Take: easy to use
I am a beauty junkie ESPECIALLY when it comes to my hair. I had horrible experiences letting "master hair stylists" relaxing my hair. After several yrs of letting someone else relax my hair to the point it breaks off or fall out I decided to try it on my own. I have used other relaxers and ehh they were pretty good. I wanted to try this product a few yrs ago, but I was told it was just like every other relaxer & that was not true!!! My hair is sooooo silky and it did get bone straight, but not overprocessed or feels like it's fried! I've had ZERO breakage and my hair is not falling out. Follow instructions exactly and you will not be disappointed. I'm about to buy 2 more to stock up while Sephora has 15% off promo...

Best Relaxer Ever!!!
-04.07.13
Quick Take: phyto specific mild relaxer
I've been using Phyto relaxer for a couple years now & it's by far the best relaxer I've ever used. I was pleasantly surprised to find they actually made a product that works for women of color & it's actually great. It doesn't break the hair & it's not harsh at all. Completely worth the price tag!!!

Quick Take: easy to use
I've been using this product for about a year now and it is the best thing to happen to my hair. Their relaxer is the best I've used on my hair. The other products are also fantastic. No breaking of my hair. Before using this relaxer I had a lot of problems with my hiar. Glad I found it. Thanks Phyto.

Love this product!
-03.10.13
Quick Take: gentle yet effective
For most of my life, I've paid professionals to relax my hair. Getting older, hormonal changes, stress and harsh chemical relaxers have led to hair loss. I've been using Phyto Index 1 for about 6 months and the difference is amazing. My hair is so much healthier, easier to style and isn't falling out. I recommend it highly.

Par Excellence!
-02.06.13
Quick Take: gentle, effective, easy to use
This is one relaxer that is NOT to be under estimated. It yields results comparable to many leading relaxers without the sever burning and irritation that is so often experience with lye based products. Even the fine, delicate #1 is very strong and produces a nice relaxed state for the hair. As with most relaxers for the first week you will need to constantly condition your hair to avoid any dryness.

For all those mixed ladies out there!
-01.25.13
Quick Take: multi-step, quick results
I consider myself to be somewhat of an experienced person when it comes to haircare. I am of a mixed race and have the oddest type of hair! My texture is somewhat Caucasian, but I have the curls and kinks from my AA side. I have tried one relaxer before hand, the professional did not listen to me when I tried to explain my hair type and she truly destroyed my hair. I was devastated. Two years later, because of my lifestyle, i decided that it would be the best idea to relax my hair again. This time I found this product and I could not be happier with the results. My hair is not bone straight, I did not leave in on the full time. it still looks health and wavy! I applied aphogee protein two-step after the relaxer and reconstructed, and I love it! Read the instructions several time over, get an actions plan together because once it is on, it is on. Having this plan will result in minimal damage and hair loss. Have your products to wash it out next to your sink (neutralizer, comb and towel.) Be patient, this takes time but it will be worth it! My new go-to!

Phyto relaxer
-01.05.13
Quick Take: multi-step
I am African American with thick and mixed gray hair. I have used every kind of relaxer known to the industry. Because of this I was looking for a relaxer without lye and harsh chemicals. My roommate is a licensed beautician who also raves of this product. The key to any relaxer is to follow all of the instructions including strand testing. The other key to relaxing is timing the clock starts ticking the moment you begin to apply NOT when you finish application. The rinsing is critical to any relaxer up to 8 or more rinses. The deep conditioner afterwards is one of the best I have worked with and I use it in between retouched. I used the #2 for straight look and recently tried the #1as a texturizer.
Fabulous! Sounds like some of you who were unhappy were mixed race users who may not have experience with the timing and technique needed to get results. Pricey yes, but no burning or after dandruff relaxer flakes, minimal hair loss compared to lye and caustic competitors. I get 2 retouched per box. just don't pre -mix !!! Save half for next time.

HORRIBLE.
-01.04.13
I received this as a gift for christmas and used it that day. I have 3b/3c hair that I've permanent dyed months ago, but my hair had no remaining straighteners or bleach on it.
I followed the instructions to a t and did the strand test before. I left it on for the recommended time and smoothed gently. when I hopped into the shower to rinse it out, my hair began falling out in clumps. after neutralizing numerous times and deep conditioning twice without fussing with my hair, my ends were still falling off. crispy doesn't even begin to describe how my hair looked. I had to cut the parts off that didn't come off on their own so that my hair would be even. I ended up losing about 3 inches of hair.
I spent hours researching this product and was completely dissatisfied by the results. I was upset and spent my christmas night crying that I had made this decision. the worst part is that neither sephora nor phyto will give me a refund because I didn't save every piece that came in the original packaging.

LOVE this product ! I started using Index 1 since 2009 and have had great results for my fine, delicate, dry hair. I now have long lasting natural shine to my hair, very little split ends and breakage, which is incredible. It's costly compared to other products but " my hair is worth it ". I plan on using this product for as long it is available. ABSOLUTELY THE BEST !

fine, kinky, dry, brittle, thinning mixed race hair
-11.14.12
Quick Take: multi-step
I have very dry, very fine, very brittle hair that has started to thin all over, especially at the temples. I'm also mixed race, so my hair is very curly and kinky, often getting matted in the back. I have used many different relaxers in the past, but have refrained from using any recently because of the hair loss.
I really hope this review can help others with my hair type. I looked for tips prior to using but they don't really apply unless you have similar hair types.
First, I did the strand test.leaving it on for a full 8 min. It turned out great and I planned to do the full head on the same time until I figured out that applying the relaxer for the strand test took only a few minutes.
Not wanting to fry my hair and not needing "bone straight" hair, I decided to apply for 7 min and leave on for 5.
I started with the roots and the "smoothed" the product to the ends.
The smoothing process did not work the way the instructions indicated. I could not section my hair, as it spread out like a spider web. The thick relaxer threatened to pull out the fragile strands so I quickly abandoned that idea.
Instead, I smoothed the entire mass of hair gently with my hands, trying to pay special attention to the ends, After a few min had elapsed, i decided to use my shower head to do the remainder of the smoothing. I ran the water over my head and the weight of the water pulled the hair straight. After a few minutes of water straightening I used the neutralizer.
This process was much longer than with any other relaxer I have ever used, and I credit the color changing technology.I was probably not rinsing well enough in the past. After 6 rinses, the foam was white an I was able to use the conditioning creme.
This was the only part that I found disappointing. The creme was not as rich as I expected and I supplemented with some shea butter conditioner.
While rinsing, I actually lost less hair than when I normally wash it, which surprised me.
My hair is now almost dry and though it feels a bit dead, it seems to be in better condition than normal. I think the split ends are more noticeable now that the rest of my hair is straight and shiny (it's never shiny btw). Even with the shortened smoothing time it is still almost bone straight. I will reserve complete judgment until after it has set, probably a few weeks from now.
So far, so good.
I have also purchased the phytocyane for thinning hair and will post a review in a few months after I finish the 12 ampules.

AMAZING STUFF
-10.27.12
Quick Take: easy to use, multi-step, quick results
I have dark black indian hair. Naturally is is pretty straight, however I get the occasional waves and curls, especially in the hairs near my forehead. This stuff is AMAZING-- it not only straightens out the curls, but it makes me hair baby soft!!! The only thing that isnt great is that it flattens your hair initially, but the volume pumps back into the hair after a week or so. I plan to use it for life!

So Sad That I LOVE This.....Sad For My Wallet...
-09.12.12
$60 for a Relaxer...absurd...I've paid $60 for a Relaxer & hairstyle with deep condition & ends trimmed. My hair is as healthy as it can be & I have no other hair issues. My last relaxer was Mizanis Bhutter Blend & I wanted something different healthier? As any chemical can be. I tried this @ home my mom put it in & its been love ever since. Relaxed my med/thick hair it smelled ok & I will always use this relaxer & when its time for me to relax my daughters hair I will use Phyto.

Breakage is a serious risk
-08.27.12
Quick Take: too good to be true
I've been experiencing some hair breakage since I used it. If you're trying to go natural and you plan to use it to create a texturizer effect, don't. This product sounded too good to be true and it was in fact. My advise would be to consult with a hair-dresser.

Pretty nice
-08.07.12
Quick Take: easy to use, quick results
Pros: the instructions were pretty easy to follow (like any other relaxer); results were nice, no hair fall out (I had new growth for three months of no relaxer); a little bit of smell but nothing horrible; and my hair is beautifully straight (however)
Con: my hair feels 'hard' {I don't know if its because of the texture of my fine hair} and the wash out process was looonnngg! ~ this is my only two
Question of the month is: if anyone of african american background with Fine hair did you have a problem with you hair being hard after using the Phyto (Fine) Relaxer & if so, what is your treatment to make it soft?
